First Oil Change

I have a 2004 Civic Ex that will be 6 months old on December 5th. Should I change the oil for the first time even though I only have 2100 miles on the car or should I wait.

Honda says you should change it at 5k the first time. When I hit 3K, I tried to make an apppointment for an oil change but they said to wait until 5k. Now it's at 3.5K and I've had the car for 8 months already.

Do it at three k, I am sure that you have already driven it pretty hard a few times. The reason that you are supposed to wait is so your motor can properly break in. Your piston rings provide needed resistence in your motor, if you change your oil too soon, you mess up your engines chance for doing this. Waiting too long between oil changes ( synthetic or not, I know from past expierience ) causes sludging in your motor which makes too much resistence. Change your oil every 3k, then at 9k, swithch to a proper weight full synthetic, you will notice a slight difference in how smooth you engine sounds(plus it protectes better at high rpms), use a Honda filter with it, put 10w40 full synthetic in your manual transfer case and see how smooth your gear changes and shifter action will become.
