After a few weeks of indecisiveness and mind changing I am finally down to 2 amp choices... without further adieu, here they are...

Amp 1 a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 (1400x1) new in box. Older model but very well known and definitely solid. $600

Amp 2 is an Orion 2500d... 2500x1 @ 1 ohm, I'll be running at 2 ohms to get 1700x1. Amp is slightly used but I know the seller, so it shouldnt be a prob. Again a very well known brand. $500

I have a stock alternator and upgraded battery. I figured at 80% efficiency, Amp 2 should pull 170ish amps at absolute max. Amp 1's manual says it should be fused at 80a but I've been told it will pull up to 165 max.

Based on this information what would you get and why?

But I JUST talked to my PG guy and he told me about these tantrums.

The only issue is there are 3 and hes gotta buy all 3. He wants one, I will take one and we have 2 days to find a buyer for the third.

I'd go with PG though. Very nice amps. It would draw less current. I forget what subs you have?

Man, $600 on a Tantrum is too much...Since it is discontinued and hard to find, you will have to pay a lot for it. Hell, Sounddomain had it for $379 before they sold out. You should wait a couple of months and see how prices are affected by the new year. Also, price matching is way to go if you want something authorized (from Sounddomain), but a good amp that puts out maximum power at 2-ohms is hard to find.

What about the Xenon 1200.1?

I would get an HO alternator first... you are gonna lose power like a mother, upgraded battery or not. The upgraded battery will do nothing if it is not charged right.
Im sure you know this megahurtz but im not sure why you are keeping the stock alt.

Those amps pull crazy amperage as you stated above, how are you gonna compensate?

I'd LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to upgrade my alt but the funds just ain't there...

On the other hand, if you guys want to pool some funds and buy me one I'd be more than happy to use it

id say the orion just because it gives you the opportunity to upgrade if youever decide to change to dual 4 ohm woofers

you may also want to consider that the orion will allow $100 CAD toward your 200 amp alt.

the orion will also cost me about another $100 in wire because I will have to pull another 4 awg, and upgrade my battery to fuse and ground wires under the hood to 1/0
