A guy I know put a 6.5" woofer in his dash and he said it sounds sick. He said it was a lot of work but wasn't that hard, took a full weekend. Use a good quality woofer and you can get hte asme. I am not sure what he used for an enclosure but I think it was a very small ported enclosure..

I was thinking of trying to cram an 8 up front, more than likely in the center of the dash, under the window. That is till I looked under where I wanted it. Honda and their crap they stuff up in there. If I had an auto, there'd probably be a 6.5 or 8 in the center console.

I was offered a nice pair of MBQ 8" drivers the other day that my buddy wanted to install in my front stage but they were just too big to go anywhere, of course these were subwoofers, not midbass or whatever

Focal makes a 5" "subwoofer" ...you can prolly get one of those to fit in the center console...but it would definantly need to be in a sealed or ported enclosure (no free air).
I can't picture what it looks like, but how much space is there behind the glove box? I wonder if one might be able to fit the 5" in the dash by building the glove box (obviously behind the actual glovebox) into an enclosure? How much volume is that 5" looking for?

you could take the passanger air bag out and fab a speaker mount there.
Or fabe a mount for the area behind the cup holder.

If you are looking to get better midbass, I would not install a single channel subwoofer. While most bass sounds are mono (left over from vinyl records, I believe -- stereo bass would cause the needle to jump), midbass sounds are typically in stereo. If anything, I would add a speaker for each channel.
But what do you mean, exactly, by "better"? That is a subjective term... Do mean better quality? Louder? Something else? If you are looking to get better sound quality, I wouldn't bother adding another speaker up front. If you are trying to make up for crappy front midbass speakers, you are still outputting sound through the crappy fronts... why not just replace them? And if you already have good fronts, adding more speakers isn't generally going to improve the sound quality. It might even make it worse.
