blaupunkt and signal to noise ratio

So I'm very interested in a Blaupunkt Heidelberg HU because I want something that isn't flashy but will be a significant upgrade from the stock HU. The only problem is the Blaupunkt has a CD signal to noise ratio of 85 dB. Which is awful. I can't even find a deck with a worse rating. So my question is, do you think I should still consider it? and.. is it possible that manufacturers measure this value differently and other brands have inflated numbers?
Here is a link to it on crutchfield. Used to be $280 but its a few years old now.

If it is that bad, why even consider it, there are much better non-flashy decks for the oney

have you ever heard of Alpine. From my experience, they are pretty good head units.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Alpine, but I really like the look of this Blau. If I don't end up hearing anything good about the Blau. I'll most likely get an Alpine or try to find a Nakamichi, but I don't want to rule the Blau out yet because it is a good clearance price and it looks nice. So if anybody has good things to say about the Blaupunkt I would love to hear them.

We refer to Blaupunkt as "Blowjunk," if that means anything

obviously not, but look at most receivers. Your paying for alot of crap. I would rather the money I'm paying for something go into the sound quality rather than some fancy OLED display and 5,000 options I'll never use. For this reason, I think I've settled on a Nakamichi CD-400 instead of the Blau.

Believe it or not, that Blaupunkt doesn't sound bad at all. Yes the s/n ratio is low, but you can't even tell. I heard it before. I would go for it. **** Sony has s/n ratio of 120db, but they still suck...

I thought I read once that Blaupunkt's HUs had the same internals as Sony.

I heard that too

Blau probably makes HUs for sony, which is why they look so similiar.

You think Blaupunkt equipment looks like Sony? I'm not seeing it. I think that if Sony were involved with Blaupunkt, the specs on the Blaus would be similar to the Sonys.. They differ quite a bit from Sony stuff. On paper, they look worse. Hmmm....Still not sure what to do. Keep the comments coming. Its either the Blaupunkt or a Nakamichi. I love Nakamichi, but this Blau looks like a pretty sweet deal.

Double checked, it wasn't the Heidelberg that I heard playing. It was the Blaupunkt Casablanca. Should be pretty similar though...Dunoo
