P&P head/Crower regrind ... UPDATED! 56k=NO!
well, on next Wednesday my head and cam are going in ... Its been sitting in my living room for months but hey, when the state says pay the $1000 fine, you gotta pay it first.. I'm currently running an 02 EX with header, no cat, Skunk catback, AEM intake, and a Zex 75 shot ... I plan on getting a VAFC2 to add more fuel to the mix ... any suggestions on the setup??? I'm all ears ... I plan on dyno'ing the following week to check air/fuel ... any guesses on HP/torque numbers?? I have a couple in mind but I wanna hear what some others are first ...

ok, the head was done locally by RPM here in Hermitage, TN ... It was P&P and milled down a bit to increase compression, stock springs and retainers, valvejob, and new stainless nitrided valves ... The cam is a regrind from Crower (search for Crower regrind for the specs I posted) .... I got my new head gasket (Nippon leakless) and a new timing belt (why not, I've been spraying a 75 shot of nitrous for a year on the original) yesterday and all I'm waiting on are the ARP headstuds/bolts from Summit ($98 shipped) to be delivered on Tuesday ... So can you run nitrous on a high compression engine?? Say I swap pistons for forged 11.5:1?? Nitrous and high compression are new to me so please gimme some input ... and lemme know if you have questions ... and what header should I look at when I drop this DCSports POS that I have now???
yeah you can run HC pistons but anything more than a 50 shot you will prolly need a couple degrees of retard on the ignition. The nitrous drops cylinder temps so it actually works quite well will high compression. Make sure you run super. You may be able to get away with stuffing in a bottle or two of octane booster. Best thing to do is call NOS tech line. They are so smart and can tell you exactly what you should do. Dont call NX they are bungholes. As far as headers I had the HP header with cat eliminator after the DC. It was awsome but it rusted after a year. stupid headers are all the same, junk.
Good luck with everything, i definately suggest getting a VAFCII even just to add 1% more fuel, you're going to need it with the ported head and nitrous. theres a lot of oxygen and not even fuel. Are you going to hit the 75 shot during dyno? I say without the nitrous im calling 130whp or so around that ballpark, i know someone with a PnP from DH made 127whp, so good luck man!!

But these mods will also help under boost.
any updates on this.....
yea the lowest ive seen with the kits avalible is 145 on a t25 (at 2300 rpm though) and usualy about 160 on SFs kit.... with upped injectors/fuel system conversion and some block work 200 is pretty ez

well, bad news strikes Nashville =( As I was leaving my house Wed AM I decided to check my mail on the way to the shop to drop off my car/head ... A letter from the TN Dept of Safety .... evidently I got license revoked!! Well, I skipped my install appointment, and 8 hours and $427 later I am once again a legal driver .... The install is rescheduled for next Wed AM and I get it back Thursday afternoon ... That really sucks though because that $427 was my VAFC2 money and the first $150 of my high compression shortblock project .... ohh well, I guess I can wait another 5 days for this head =( I did find an EX block with crank, pistons, and rods for $320 to my door tho ...

yeah, something about getting pulled over while on probation with no valid license that didn't sound like it'd go very well .... I am rescheduled at the installer for Wednesday 8am and will get it back Thursday at 5pm ... On the downside, I wont have the cash for the dyno runs for a while so I'm kind of hating that aspect .... I hope my A/F ratio is pretty close because I just can't afford to dyno tune right now ... I wish I could do the install myself but I'm a little nervous about pulling/swapping my own head ... something about that intake manifold/fuel system removal scares me.... ohhh well, I guess I knew it wouldn't be cheap but I was hoping to do the install and 1 dyno session the same week .... I'll post results as soon as I get home Thursday night ... I know alot of people are waiting to hear about the Crower regrind ....
ps - anybody know who has higher compression pistons for us?? like a 10.8:1 or 11:1?? I have had the head milled so I can't go much higher than 11:1 ...

ok, so now I'm excited ... Dropping the car off in 9 hours and I gotta sleep for at least 4 of it =) Also, I scrounged up the cash for 1 dyno session so I'm hoping to do it real soon ... All I really care about is making sure I don't go super-lean, and I hope my idle is cool ... Also I still am looking for advice on the hi-compression pistons ... Does anyone know of any that are made for us or are they all gonna have to be a custom job? anyhow, wish me luck!

Hope it works out. Your idle may get shakey, but I've been fine for 6 months now and no problems. You will most likely be running lean. I think the vafcII only works up to around +5 before the ecu corrects it back down. If that's the case and you need more fuel, it's gonna be more mods for you like bigger injectors and e-manage. Actually, you're most likely gonna have to do a return fuel system conversion. But don't worry, cause there are kits out already from streetlevelperformance. Then you can add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to get more fuel in there.

ohhh sorry for the giant pics but I grabbed the wrong disk ... I went ahead and had my cat ported also 8) The pistons are what happens after over a year of spraying nitrous ... There was a little discoloration but no damage to anything ...
