ok ... I would take pics of the cam but the ^$#@ing thing didnt work .... finished the install this morning and started the car - valve contact!!! The valves are hitting each other... Dunno the exact cause of it but we have already contacted Brian@Crower to see what he's going to do about it ... When the mechanic called him and finally got in touch with him, we got "we don't even make a cam for the D17 ..." Gave him my customer number and part/job number and we're waiting to hear back from him now ... This is gonna be a 3 day head install and I think I'm gonna have to re-install the stock cam ... As far as the pistons, that was all coolant and oil from pulling the head, and we did clean them off before putting the new head back on ...
Now, my mechanic is ASE certified with 12 years of experience (6 working at the Honda dealership, 6 owning his own shop) and has been mine and many other friends mechanic for over 4 years ... I had the head reassembled by a professional engine builder who owns his own machine shop ... I know every single step was done correctly using all the torque specs provided by the different manufactures ( Honda, ARP, AEM, Crower ) so I know its the cam and not the install ...
I will keep this updated with any/all info I get and I hope nobody else used my regrind spec sheet ...

ok, talked to Brian@Crower personally ... Explained the problem and he was hesitant at first but then said he was willing to do whatever it took to take care of this ... I explained that the valves were making contact with each other and he said that this wasnt a very aggressive regrind, but I don't think they even put it in a head and turned it to see if it was ok ... I know they usually don't do that on regrinds, but seeing as this was the first cam attempt for a D17, I thought they would check that (I mean, come on, if Crower cant do a cam who can) ... Well, anyways I am glad to have the P&P head installed but I'm not real happy about having to change the camshaft in 2-6 weeks or however long it takes Crower to fix it ... I get my car back tomorrow and I'll post up how the P&P feels... I probably wont dyno it untill I get the new cam so I guess Friday is officially Butt-Dyno day ... wish me luck ...

Crower regrind works!!! My head is installed and the new cam is in ... can definately feel a difference from the butt-dyno and the real dyno is coming very soon ... Also, I talked to Brian at Crower this morning and he said look for complete internals and replacement camshaft for the D17 available in Jan-March 05 ... I'll post the dyno when I have it ...

very good news. i'm loving how it seems like the aftermarket is finally coming thru for us 7thgen owners. first i read about hondata "working" on something. now crower is gonna have internals available early next year. its all coming together and i plan on keeping my car for future boosting plans.

I hate to admit this, but it wasn't the cam at all ... it was the AEM cam gear ... I knew I remembered hearing about some fitment problem but I couldn't remember what it was .... For now, I just have the cam set to 0 degrees but I can feel a difference in power between the head and cam ... Once I get it on dyno, I can actually adjust it in and then we'll see some actual numbers ... I dont have any fuel control yet so I can't beat it hard tho 8( I'll keep this updated as I build on it and tune ... After the fuel system and a couple dynos I'm working on a high-compression shortblock .... there goes all my spare $$$ for the next 6 months ...

WHen you change the cam for higher lift you have to adjust the valves, Anyone who works on performance cars know this is a must. Did a shop do this or did you? Lucky you did not bend a valve or something.
