Sound cuts out at higher volumes
Tonight when I was driving, I turned the volume up, and when I did, the sound would cut out. The CD isn't skipping, because it stops cutting out when I turn it down. I have a Pioneer deck and an Alpine multichannel amp. I am replacing the RCAs soon because the ones I have now are going bad. Is it the CD player, the amp, my RCAs, or a fuse that is causing this, or none of the above? This is hella frustating. Thanks.
If the RCAs are going bad then fix them first and see if the problem persists. If it does we will go from there.
The fuse is an on or off thing. It works until it blows, then it never works again. It isn't the fuse ....

thanks, i figured it probably wasn't the fuse but then again i'm no expert. i'm waiting on the RCAs to come through the mail so it looks like it might be a week of this crap. sigh..thanks
I only have one amp hooked up to my fronts and rears, no sub. It's still doing the same thing right when I turn the radio on. The amp is mounted on the back of the rear seats in the trunk.
check your power and ground...make sure they are what the amp manufacturer recomends...sounds like current problem, the more you turn it up, the more amperage is required...if your power and ground are not up to par, it will cut out...also make sure your impedance per channel is what the amp can handle..
All the power and ground wires are up to specs, I'm pretty sure. I had CC install the amp and the wiring is massively thick. I've had this amp for about two months now and two nights ago is when I first had this problem, so I'm guessing if it were the ground or power this problem would have come up before now.
I think he said that he doesn't have any subs, just an amp powering his front and rear speakers, if i'm reading right.
It could still be yoru ground/power connections, stuff can loosen up over time, i'd definitely check your ground connection. Or, even better, next time the sound goes out, take a look at your amp and see if the lights are still on, or possibly in protected mode. If the lights are off, we know that it's not gettign power somewhere.

Next time it happens (it just happened on my way home from work), I'll look in to see if the light is on. When this first started happening, I thought maybe an RCA had become loose and when I checked those connections, the light on the amp was still on. I did discover something tonight. When I fade the speakers all the way to the right, the cutting out stops. I can crank it without any cutting out at all. Is this stronger evidence of bad RCAs?
PS I have no subs in my car, just four coaxials and a multichannel amp.

Sounds like a problem I had to deal in my dads car. The Alternator was actually going bad, maybe because it is over 30 years old in a 1969 mustang. We had a 4 channel amplifier running front and rear speakers and since the alternator didn't always charge, the speakers would cut out at high volumes, but when you faded the speakers to either the front or the rear then they would work. If not the RCAs, I would take it back to the people who installed it. Hopefully you don't have a bad alternator.
im currently having this same problem my i have 2 separate amps one pushing my subs the other pushing my interiors and if i turn the volume up loud enough my interiors cut off and on over and over again i had it looked at and im told that the problem is that my interiors cant handle the power im trying to push into it at these higher volumes i turned down the hpf on my headunit for my rear deck speakers and the problem is gone but i do want to power a set of speakers that can handle it thats why im switching interior speakers to memphis audio and im pretty sure if you turn down the settings on the amp itself it'll help clear up the problem. Im just to lazy to go into the plexiglass and adjust it now. lol so i cheated with the setting on the radio
