Amp Power Wire?
I'm hooking up my amp and sub right now on a 04 Civic coupe. I can't find a space to get the amp power wire through the firewall. Here's a pic of what it looks like under the glove compartment. I took the screw off that metal piece on the right but it doesn't seem to open up. Where should I put my power wire?
EDIT: Also, where should I ground the amp? I looked around my trunk area and can't find a bolt to ground it. Do I have to run the ground wire to the outside of the car?

mine power wire is actually ran through the firewall under the sterring wheel...and ground the wire to one of the screws to the car that seperates the trunk from the back seats.....it's like right under the carpet when you fold down the seats.
i ran it through on the passenger side. i felt it was easier to work on that side cuz theres no fuse box, steering wheel, and everything else on that side. theres much more open space on the passenger side.
as for grounding, i put the seats down in the back and found a bolt and used it.
you may wanna try taking the rear seats out and using the bolts underneath the seats. then replace the seats when its fully secure. just some suggestions, good luck.

OK, I'm gonna ground it to a bolt that separates the backseat from the trunk. I looked under the hood but couldn't see a place where a lot of wires were coming through. Is it the thing all the way on the left of the pic where all the wires are going through or do I need to pull the carpet up more to see it? That was the most I could pull it up, the rest of it is under the center console.

Ahh, it's not working. The huge rubber piece on the outside of all the wires takes up the entire hole. I tried putting it in through the slit in the rubber but the wires take up the entire hole on the inside. Here's a pic of what it looks like. Any ideas?

Hmm, I don't think I understand you correctly. Because if I cut a slit, the big rubber will still block up the entire hole. And the inside still has all those wires going through which takes up all the space on the inside.
yeah, cut a hole like that...
there are two boot covers...
one more is inside the engine bay...
stick a screwdriver(long one) through the hole then go look inside the engine bay so you know where it comes out...
make sure to fix the boot back up when you're done...
by the way....
that boot on the firewall is a real pain in the ***!!!

don't worry too much about the boot you're looking at now...
make the hole as big as you need...
if you mess it up you can fix it so now air gets in...
you really need find that other boot on the firewall...
it is a pain in the ***...hard to break through...
good luck!
i'm leaving work now, so i can't respond until tomorrow...
if you have any more questions...i'll respond tomorrow...
take care and good luck!

Just push it through on the right side of where that bunch of wires is. With large wire it might take a while, but it does work.
What I suggest is putting a straight piece of wire (like cutting the straight piece off of a wire coat hanger) and taping it securely to the wire, with the power wire an inch or so back from the tip of the coat hanger wire. Use it to keep the power wire stiff and it will be very easy to poke thru the firewall. I've done it on 2 7th gens now (including my 04 with 4 awg), and it works really well.
Also works well for running speaker wire into doors.

It's not easy, especially with larger wire. It took me a lot of work to get my 4 awg through, but I persisted and eventually it made it. When I did 8 awg on a different car, it was a lot easier, but still slightly difficult.
Just persist and it will eventually work.
Please be careful to avoid touching the factory wires with the coat hanger. The last thing you want is to cause a short in there.

I poked a bent coat hanger through that rubber thing, taped on the wire, and pushed it through to the outside. No problem at all (4ga wire). At least, compared to getting the speaker wire into the door...
I suggest lubing up the wire with some silicon spray or something, as someone here suggested in another thread (after I was done with my wiring...
).
