check engine light that stays on
I am the new owner of a 1989 Honda Civic (automatic transmission) who had to have the engine replaced shortly after I bought the car. I've always had excellent luck with the garage that replaced the engine and they have worked hard to fix the one remaining problem after the engine replacement - the "check engine" light won't go off. It almost always happens when the engine is under a load - going up a steep, long hill will invariably set it off. There is no unpleasant noise associated with the light going on; the only noise I've ever noticed, and only a couple of times at that, is a lowered pitch similar to a changing of gears. The computer always reads a problem with just the O2 sensor and they have replaced it with two while trying to solve the problem. After the second replacement they thought it was fixed since they drove it up the long steep hill that always sets it off with no problem but when I drove it it went off again. When I stop, turn off the engine and start it up again the light is off. The garage guys seem to be out of ideas, short of swapping out the processor (which they don't believe will solve the problem) so I hope someone on this list will have some suggestions. Thanks.
Here is a bit of advice, go the Autozone and have them check out your ecu...if they cannot figure it out, take it to a Honda dealer, and here is why...my last car had a "check engine" light that would not go off no matter who I took it to. After a year of having it on, I finally went to the dealer and had them take a look...apparently it was a rollover valve in my gas tank that had gone bad...they said if I got rear ended, my car could have blown up...so I would try everything to make sure it is not a safety issue before simply giving up...take it to the dealer...

maybe they did a shitty job of reinstalling the new engine. Didnt hook things up right, alot of shops do that. I would go back and demand they fix the problem, because most shops now just do half *** jobs and give people there cars back and it doesnt even run right.
