Raced a 6th gen last night

Driving home on the freeway last night, a red 2dr 6th gen rolls next to me. His car sounded pretty deep, sounded like he had a cold air and just a new muffler tip.
So after messing with him for a little bit he gunns it -takes off, i drop it in 3rd and totally take him. By the time i shifted to 4th I was about a car in front. -sounded like he was really close to redline when i passed
When we stopped at a light he asked "What do you got under there?!" Im like "uhh, just a CAI there homeboy."
Shouldn't he have won?! I mean in my 4dr, and my 18" rims as some know are about 1000lbs each -and he is by himself in a 2dr.
I thought he would totally win

well we have more torque than the 6th gen...not a lot like 7-8 more torque...considering its an old car, depending on how it was driven it prolly doesn't even have the original power it use to have so thats why you prolly took him :-) I use to have a white EX with just an AEM Cold Air, now i have the 04 EX gonna get intake soon, I feel like this one is faster. My old EX I took to the track I hit 17.3 which is at a track that is elevated so converted its like 16.7 but with my new EX I hit 17.1 which is like a 16.5ish converted so we got more power

Not a big deal....its only a 7Torque difference I think the difference is in the weight. Although 7thgen has more torque it weighs more so I think the fact that the 6th gen just wasn't brand new the motor has taken a beating to cause it to lose some power. Thats just my opinion though.

it's not only torque.... it's max WHP as well.... they just dont dyno with as much WHP despite the same HP rating.... someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

the 1999 Civic EX was a D16Y8....So I dunno but I've never heard about 7th genz dynoing with MORE WHP than the 6th gen I always thought they had same HP.

My friend has a slightly modded 6th gen ex with cvt tranny. His car is way faster than my 7thgen auto. Maybe the old engine likes mods better. Oh and the new d17 is also ulev. Better emissions often means poorer performance.

When I had my 7thgen I was able to beat every past generation civic that was equally modded as me or +/- some little mods. Well except the SI's, can't compete with those. The only variable I see that can make them slower is how beat to death it is. Deep down I still think the 7thgen is faster than the previous generations stock, just not as mod friendly.

With my 7th gen I'm not as attached, doesn't feel like a car to mod. When I had my 6th gen I was so in the mood to slap a turbo on it and everything, just not the same with my 7th gen. I was stupid to let my brother barrow my car for a day. But anyways to me the new one feels a little faster but I aggree with DaPipeLayer when he says it depends on how beat to death the car is. Thats why the 7th gen seems faster and can take a 6th gen.

I raced a 6th gen EX with open exhaust and and open airbox. (ghetto modding for the race) Off the line he had me, putting about a car length on me through 2nd, but come 3rd I started to pull him back in. We both finished almost dead even as we didnt wanna go much faster. From a roll I could take him, but from a dig he beat me all 3 times.
