Canucks news & info.
there are lots of rumours circling the city right now in regards to specific players moving along. what have you civicminded canucks fans heard about of recent?
one other question - who is glad/mad that we still have Cloutier?
im personally glad we kept him. I think he's an amazing goaltender when not injured. and even in his last game of the playoffs, after his injury he still managed to get up and make a few more critical saves. i think he's playoff ready and am hoping he's the key to future playoff success.

I think Cloutier is one of the best goalies in the league. When he is in the zone he is fvcking unstoppable, but when the pressure gets to him and he lets a goal in he loses his concentration and there is nothing he can do to get it back.

Cloutier has a problem with consistency. Too bad that he injured himself during the finals w/ Calgary. I'm glad they kept him though, but the expectations on him remain high.
All I know of (also from my thread in the Sports sec) is that they resigned Allen and Sopel.

he was doing REALLY good about 'getting over the goal' this past season. he'd let one thru, then tighten up like a drum, most nights... he was doing awesome in the playoffs this year, too. kept his mind on the game. I think he learned alot last year.
I do agree on the consistency thing -- when he's hot, hes hot. but when hes not, we're screwed.
One bit of inconsistency i'd like to see dealt with is the Sedins. They rock it up one month, then they freeze up for the next two months. I feel for Jason King he had it all then the Sedins froze up and couldn't muster a goal no matter who played with them. Near the end of the season they picked it up again... but is it just me or does this happen every year?

I think the Sedins and King were more of a flash in the pan. Once the rest of the league knew how to shut them down, they got shut down good.
Your right about how it seems to happen every year. They just have their ups and downs.

dang i hope they re-sign morrison... hes a player you can build a team around
sounds like naslund is on the move after his contract is up so can't depend on nas to be the core of the team anymore.

Hopefully Nazzy sticks around. As far as the sedins go, they need to be slapped every time they decide not to shoot, they can be pretty when they try to score. Im suprised nobody has mentioned Bertuzzi. Last year he looked like a fat rich mook hardly trying and then skating to the bench like he had to take a dump. If he does come back I just hope the suspension makes him wanna earn his paycheck again. I miss watching him play like he was trying to get that fat raise. They need to keep morrison period. He's Tracks that the west coast express rolls on. Anyone else think that if Sopel cut his hair he might not screw up as much?

there has been enough talk about bert already. hes an exciting player to watch and i agree his last season was a bummer. would like him back as im sure nearly any canuck fan does.
morrison just wants a longer contract thats why he is going arbitration, cloutier is a bum. hes gonna milk us for money. if he asks for 4 mil in his arbritration i would be NAH
but nonis is like his *****.

Cloutier received 2.5 mil last season, and yes, he was overrated, sometimes. When crunch time came, he delivered. But gamesw he should have won, he lost most of the time...
Morrison needs a little more than his 2.45 mil he received last season.
I don't think the arbitrators will rule in Cloutier's favor. He's asking for alot, and his talent doesn't match other goaltenders with comparable skill.

well i hope we keep cloutier -- auld rocks but that 5 hole... it'll hurt once opponents start using and abusing it.
if there is any goaltender i didn't like last season, it was Hedberg. his muss-ups in the playoffs weren't his fault, well maybe some was his but it wasn't what lost us the 1st round. he was hung out to dry by the d-men
as far as regular season goes, he was exciting to watch as he played the puck, but did it very stupidly from time to time, like when he broke his wrist in december... stupid mistake. near the end of the seasons he started slipping, bad, giving up awful goals as his puck playing turned into bad turnovers.

Hedberg had expectations upon him when they signed him since Skudra was out. Auld did well, but he still needs his practice. He'll be a good goalie, but like most goalies his size (Auld is 6' 4'' and covers a lot of the net), he has 5 hold trouble and has difficulty recovering when he's off his feet.
Cloutier should stay, but the team needs to have confidence in their goalie in order to succeed, thus Cloutier's expectations will be much greater this coming season.
