Trying to install power door locks.

I'm trying to install power door locks in my car. I pulled out some actuators out of an old car.

How they work is when you put positive power to the positive and negative-to-negative they lock, when you put negative to positive and positive to negative then unlock.

Here’s my problem, my remote starter has keyless entry on it, and when I press lock/unlock, it sends out 0.6volts/500mA of power to either the lock or the unlock wire.

I need to get/make something that will send voltage to my actuator when it receives the 0.6volts from my remote start unit. While having the actuator connected to the batt.

So basically I need to get a switch that turns on and off via an electrical current.

Anyone have any idea’s?

Are you sure your alarm puts out 0.6V? I've never seen an alarm which puts a positive voltage. That is well below the required pull involtage to use 2 SPST Bosch relays. Also, to clarify, they are 2 wire actuators right? I'm surprised you even have to buy them used. Aftermarket ones only cost $5-10.

Yes they are two wire.

I didn't buy them, I took them out of a ford I was scrapping, .

So how should I connect these? The 0.6volts is a constent voltage I found on my remote starter. I've tried testing different wires for the door locks, but I can't find anything that gives out 12volts, and I'm a little clueless on how to hook these up.

Heres a PDF of my remote start unit,

Thanks

Okay. That is a typical alarm unit. It is NEGATIVE (ground) switching for your lock/unlock channels. I don't know where you got the 0.6v from because it isn't. Since you are working with 2 wire units, you will need 2 relays to do the polarity switching. How many doors you working with? I really think you should buy the 4-wire units or a kit because that will save you from wiring up the relay cluster to do your polarity switching to get a lock/unlock from the 2 wires. The 4-wire units also give you central unlocking where pushing/pulling the lock plunger switches all the doors to lock/unlock. Do you really want to go with the 2 wires?

Seems like I should have done a little research before.

Everything is already installed. I installed one actuator in each door, and ran two wires for each door to the front. I tested them out using a 12v powersupply and the doors all lock/unlock nicely.

So i'm going to stick with my two wire actuators I have now.

What relays do I need that will work with my unit? And how many do I need for 4 doors?

Thanks

Hah. Okay. Well, you only need 2 relays. I wanted to know how many doors you have just so I get an idea of the amount of current you are drawing so you can properly fuse it. The relays you need look like this attachment. They don't need to be Bosch. Potterbrumfield are fine as well. You can also get elcheapo Made in China ones. They look the same, but are of lower quality. I'd personally stick with Bosch or Potterbrumfield. Also, if you can get 2 sockets which have pigtails on them, that would help clean up the installation. If you don't get sockets, you will need a bunch of 1/4" insulated spade crimps. Give me a while to dig up a diagram for the relay reverse polarity switching. I'll probably sketch it by hand and label the colour code acccording to what the alarm unit output colour should be.

And is this the wiring diagram I need to use?

No. Right part, wrong schematic. Something isn't quite right about those schematics. None will work with your polarity reversing power lock. Get 2 of these though http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=330-075
Those are the sockets you want. I'm kind of tied up right now, but I'll see if I can get you a schematic or draw one for polarity reversal.

Well I went ahead and got two relays, and I installed them using the schematics I posted (did it before reading your post ), and it works fine .

My keyless entry works really well. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
