Exclamation Turbo Shopping (New? or Used?)

Alright Im having a rough time deciding what kind/size/style of turbo to get. I need a t25 flange so im limited to the T25/T28. I could look at some mitsu turbos, but there is more info on garret so im sticking with that. Here are my choices so far.

1. Used T28 Ball Bearing Turbo from Silvia.(e-mailed about ratios. bout would be around .64 hot and .60 cold) Located in canada so I can save on shipping/brokerage fees. Approx. 500 CND shipped.

2. Used T25 Turbo from SR20det. Approx 375 CND shipped.

3. Brand new T25 Turbo .48 (hot) .49 (cold) Approx 400 CND shipped.

4. Used T25 Ball Bearing Turbo. .64 hot .60 cold. approxx 460 CND shipped

Im looking for people who have had either a t25 or a t28 to offer some opinions. Im looking for moderate spool up times which would make a BB unit better, but they are all used. What would some of you do..get a new t25 and be sure of quality or get a used t28 BB in hopes of increased performance with risks. Thanks for the help.

I have a T28 that i bought used with only 2000 miles on the turbo with a .48 a/r turbine and .53 a/r compressor. No problems at all and this turbo rocks. I dynoed at 6psi at 166whp and 153lb ft. It is fully spooled at 2900-3300rpm as well. It can easily push over 200whp and pulls all the way to near redline 6200rpm(from what i heard the t25 really falls short at 5500). Yes im biased because this is the turbo i have, but from people i know using a T28 as well on a 92 Si, 94 240sx, and 91 integra they love it

im going with a similar set up. im getting a new garrett gt28r turbo. they have been rated at 325-350 HP and a quick spooling BB turbo. They are a little pricey new but well worth it.

^thats what i was thinking of getting, but ive found out they run for around 800US on e-bay. Seems a bit high for my set-up, and I realistically dont need the top of the line.

Skater: Around how much did you end up paying for you're turbo. I want a t28, but i really dont have money to blow paying 1400CAD for a turbo.

Whitewidow: what do u mean? Obviously they arent going to perform like new, but are you saying that because you've had bad experience, or just because you think new is a better option?

boosta:thanks for the link man! New turbo's are so expensive, but it be soo nice to get a brand new one, with no fears of it breaking down. Who else here has experienced used turbo's? Any tips for someone looking for a used one?

a new turbo is gonna be more money at first but the quality is gonna be better and it will save money in the long run. if you blow up your turbo im sure your motor is gonna go with it too.

^yah thats true, but the one thing that interests me is how many people rely on older turbo's for there set-up. I mean they must be alright if alot of people use them, but from what ive heard it seems that new is better although its more expensive.

Please do yourself the favor and buy new.

BTW we sell Garrett turbos for cheaper than them anyway.

so who actually has a t25 turbo, and what kinda numbers are you putting out? I just really need to know if there is a big jump in performance from the t25 to the t28? Like for the extra money will I really see that much of a difference?

what does everyone think of a t28 BB turbo (.60 Cold and .64 Hot) Brand New for 1000 Canadian (750 American). Im thinking of getting this turbo for some decent mid range numbers.

who actually has a t25 running right now with dyno numbers? Everyone seems to have either a t3 or a t28. Anyone with a t25?
