Cut springs....

Hey guys, I have a set of Eibach pro-kit, and i was wondering if its "ok", to cut 1 link off of each spring to give me an even lower look. Has anyone ever done it? I would also like to hear from you on your experiences.

Thanks.
Steve

I think if you cut the spring it wont have enough pre-load to keep it in place when the car is lifted. However, once its lowered onto the ground it might be okay to drive assuming it never ever reaches full suspension extension. If it does it could come out of the perches and you'll be in alot of trouble. Sounds to risky for me.

Also I heard when you cut springs you want to use a saw instead of a torch so that you dont heat up the spring and possibly ruin its tensil strength.

how come you wont just try diff springs?

you can probably trade those for something else or sell and put in a little more bucks n get springs that drop more.

if you cut springs, you comprimise the spring rate it was designed for... and you will get a bouncier ride... MUCH bouncier
if you want a lower look, get coil locks.. they go around coils to compress them

You can cut some progressive springs, but you can only cut a dead coil. I don't know if the prokit has a dead coil. You won't compromise the spring rate that much if you cut a dead coil, but the prokit is such a small drop that you might not have any. Call up Eibach and ask them if it is ok. I know neuspeed recommends it on some of their springs.

It is not a stupid idea. Did you read my post above? Sometimes they can be cut. It is only stupid if you 1) cut stock springs and 2) don't cut progressive springs correctly.

Becareful with coil locks, if you lock the coils and fully extend the suspension the spring might come out of the perch. You should get a set of lowering springs instead.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice......im really going to reconsider cutting them. I might look into a set of new springs, or trying to see if there is a dead link to cut instead. I have a friend that has a set of Neuspeed springs on his car......the ride is pretty bouncy, is that the way the springs react on our cars?

If you don't have aftermarket shocks, then yes.
