B&M Short Shifter Review
I just got the ss today overnighted from Eddie at Truehonda....Great customer service might I add.
Anyways, i decided to try the new shifter out because the revo just wasn't satisfying my needs. I have had the Revo V.1 for a year on the RSX and i had the Revo on the civic for about 2, and they did their job, but it was just missing something.
The rsx is known for their "notchy" 2nd gear/3rd gear grind. I unfortunately had problems with a very notchy 2nd gear, and a lot of 3rd gear grinds....
The revo did not help at all with these problems, i was really getting fed up with it, until i heard about the B&M, heard a lot of good reviews from clubrsx, so i decided to purchase one myself and test it out.
I belive its identical to the civic, the box has the same part #'s for the civic except for Si models, and rsx and type s models.
The shifter is much thicker, seems to be a sit shorter than the revo did, which is a plus in my book.
It was a pain to get the retainer out of the stock assembly with a flathead...actually ended up cracking it a little but i dont really care cause the B&M came with a nice sturdy "aluminum" retainer that looks much better and is much stronger.
After replacing the stock shifter with the B&M it was pretty much cake from there...
First thing i noticed was the smoothness of the shifts. The very first time i stuck it in first, it led my shift perfectly, it was so easy, smooth, and clean. I took it out for a spin, and ripped through the first 3 gears, ones i had trouble with the Revo/stock.
It was so amazing, the shifter has a unique feel to it every shift i made. The feeling is really speechless. I didnt expect so much from this compared to the Revo. The Revo is very nice, and for the price, you cant beat it. But the B&M is definitly worth the extra 75-95 bucks (depending where you buy it
). This is definitly one of the better mods i have ever made. I dont know if many of you all have switched to B&M from the Revo, since pretty much everyone has one. In my experience, the B&M is simply on another level.
Here are some pics i took right after installation, not too clear cause of the sun, but i was too anxious to take it out for a spin, but ill try and get some better pics.

side to side play shouldn't be an issue with stock shifter assembly, (which u'll use) for the B&M SS.
although the B&M does work fine on the Revo too.. but there's slight difference between Revo's construction and stock's.. hence more side to side play.
also the neuspeed, although being one of the better shifter adapter, isn't really worth the price in my opinion.
B&M usually run for 180-190 shipped. pricy but appearantly worth it.

the side to side play seems a lot less than compared to the Revo.
I paid 180 shipped, and yea it does seem a little pricey, but after installing it, it was well worth it IMO.
Taking apart the stock assembly wasn't too bad, the only hard part is taking the top retainer out with a flathead screwdriver, which was a pain.....besides that, everything was really easy.
i believe the stock **** will work, the only thing is that the silver ring on the stock boot that holds the "stock" **** up, might be in the way, because of the thickness of the B&M shifter, it may not allow the **** to twist all the way down. I have the JDM DC5 boot and it couldn't go through the thick part of the shifter after the threading, but it still worked pefectly, the **** still twisted enough so that it was on there secure and tight.

yeah, what **** would I need to use in order to make it clean? i don't wanna have threading pokin' out from under my shift ****...that just look half-fast and well, i drive a civic...and i'm not half-fasting anything...in fact...i'm not fast at all...i just wanna drive a nice looking car!!!! DAG!!!!! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!!!!!! *whoa, just flipped out*...anyway..yeh...so wassup?

ok, the **** isnt the problem at all...
its the the ring around the the top of the leather shift boot that was my problem.
I have a DC5 type r boot, so it is not the same as that silver clip the civic has...but it looks similar....you dont see any of the threading....the **** still turns enough to be on tight while "hiding" the threads...it doesnt look bad at all...
I'll go out and take some better pics for you all so you know what im talking about

There is another bolt and nut securing the tip of the main linkage to the b&m arm, at the end of the linkage and center of the arm. It bolts through the linkage, instead of using the nut and bolts from the revo/stock version, and then securing it with those cr@ppy cotter pins....this made the main linkage a lot tighter and a lot less play. This is what i assume took away my 3rd gear engagement problem.....the revo/stock version had a lot of play with the main linkage and the nut and bolts.
So, if I were to buy one, I would have to tear apart my stock shifter box? I have the revo, can I tear apart that on and replace it with the b&m shifter? Do you think the shifts are even shorter than the revo? I think I'll have to save up my money.
Yeah I noticed the completely different arm design, and was hoping the 4 bolt box area did what it looks like it would. That looks like it would get rid of some slop indeed. I just sold my revo, but the B&M is still so expensive right now. You could still get an E-clip for that secondary linkage BTW.

yea you could also tear apart the Revo if you would want....its pretty much the same.
I not sure what the differences may be, but either way you will have to take everything apart and then put it back in. Really only takes 5-10 min, its actually very easy.
The B&M also comes with very detailed instructions, so that helps.
Sickboy: Yea i was thinking about getting another clip for that....its not really needed, but why not...
