Noob Question
Okay..well i juss got my 2001 civic ex..i drove on the parkway and i noticed that i had it on d3..cuz the dealer told me that was what i should use..well i pulled over and switched it to reg d...now is there a way that it automatically goes to d without stoppin and putting ur foot on the brake and then switching gears?
Which ever dealer told you to drive it in D3 is full of it and is waiting for you to blow your transmission so thay can make some money.
Drive it on D and leave it on D. You have an automatic and not a race car so until then please don't blow your transmission (like I did) and leave it at D!
You can switch to D and D3 at ANY time without pushing the buttons.
You have to push the button to access D2 because its dangerous to be at speed and accidentally go in D2.
D4 = will go through all 4 forward gears
D3 = will go through first 3 gears. 4th gear is locked out.
D2 = LOCKED in 2nd gear.
D1 = We don't have that option.

4th gear is the overdrive gear. The wheels are essentially spinning faster than the engine. So the dealer might have meant d3 for city driving but if you want fuel economy or being able to drive on the highway without going at around 4-5k then stick it on d4. You can see the overdrive kick in because the rpms don't drop like a regular shift but just sink down a bit.

why would you not drive with it in D(which is equipped with overdrive)? Unless you were racing or something, and wanted to powershift an auto, I'd see no reason to drive in anything other than D. Fuel Economy is better too.
just stay in 4.... switching through while you are driving or even rolling will fvck up ur tranny
i did that with mine before and soon youll notice it switches itself out of gear when you stop sudden (not even slammin on brakes) then when you give it gas it takes a few seconds to kick in so stay in 4 or 3 cus its bad for ur car to screw with it
oh yea and NEVER EVER do neutral drops it will realllly f with your car

if you really have to do a drop then just pop it in d and then the hold the brake and accelerator until it revs up to around 2.5k and then release.
And anyways the tranny changes gears in d4 under WOT at the redline anyways.
