Official Release From Hayame in Regards to 01 Civic Ver. 2 Coilovers PLEASE READ

Subject:
Hayame coilover installation for 01-up Civic and 02-up RSX
(part#’s hay10.71.17 & hay10.71.04)
The new version of Hayame coilovers for 01-up Civic and 02-up RSX received a slight
design improvement, which may lead to some confusion during installation.
In order to improve the alignment and positioning of the tie-rod in relation to the
coilover, we redesigned the coilover arm to accept the tie-rod on the under side rather
than the top of the arm. In other words, the tie-rod should be rotated 180 degrees, and
inserted through the bottom of the coilover arm. Installed this way, the taper will properly
accept the tie-rod and there is no need to enlarge the hole.
We will be posting more complete installation instructions along with photographs and/or
illustrations on our website (hayameperformance.com) in the near future.
We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. For any questions concerning this
matter, please find our contact information at hayameperformance.com
Please post any further concerns you have in this thread and they will be answered either by myself or a Hayame rep.

Thanks,
Michael

Will this throw off the toe alignment by turning the tie rod 180 degrees and does it cause any problems with bumpsteer?

well when you install coilovers, you want to get an alignment so it doesnt really matter.
For lowered cars, it would actually help out with bumpsteer. If you read past questions about bumpsteer, you'll notice people would recommend you to invert it so that its not as badd. Well problem there is you cant since the hole is tapered.

So now there is no new replacement part? They will keep the current design? How do you invert the tie rod?

I took pix, you can't really tell how tapered it is but the bottom of the hole is indeed 1/16" bigger than the top. I measured. But anyhoo, check pix at the "WOES" thread.

Hello Mike, this is my concern.

i saw something about needing a washer on the strut top (on the front) or something. i'm gonna install mine tomorrow.. anyone know about that? i need pictures or something too. it said the suspension moves freely and rubs.

This is what I was talking about. A first I thought I was able to eliminate the the movement when I secured the springs with the top two perch. I went to have my car aligned again today and it still moves a little bit. The alignment shop said there something that goes on top like a washer to properly secure it. They install suspensions to RSX and 7th gen civic and the coil-over comes with a washer or it will move.

Heres what I have observed. Please check your wheels as well.

Right Front Wheel:
1. Position your one hand to 1 o'clock and the other to 7 o'clock
2. Try to wiggle it.

Left Front Wheel:
1. Position your one hand to 11 o'clock and the other to 5 o'clock
2. Try to wiggle it.

It only moves when your hands are at the positions mentioned.

Cocky, if you are able to find out about the washers, please let me know.

Thanks.

ITS NORMAL!!! I can jack up my car and wiggle the thing too.
It cant be the spring because the spring isnt keeping everything aligned, the whole strut is. There would have to be play within the whole strut and not the spring if it were the case.
But ya its normal for it to have a little play.

please tell me you are serious!!! that F'n alignment shop kept complaining about that! I had a feeling this is not that serious since you can only move it a little on the said hand positions. I was also under the impression that it was normal since the front suspension of the Civic/RSX is different from all other. I call the Civic/RSX front, an F-1sh suspension

I would just call it an ISH suspension! HA ha, sorry I had to. Anyhoo, I'll check mine again, maybe I'm just a friggin weakling, but I seriously didn't get any wiggle after I'd installed my rims back on. And I just got back from gettin some lunch - the clicking is still there, sounds like that 3rd lock nut is workin its way loose. And here I thought I wasn't gonna get my hands dirty after work for the first time in 2 weeks.

I was about to ask you if we can meet up so I can shake your wheel but since you told me that they are normal, Im convinced.

thanks VNlilMAN!!!

man, I got issues

Im going back to my final alignment this afternoon.

Neuspeed swaybar/adapter, here I come!!!

edit:

The wiggle isnt normal after all. I dont wanna post here again, instead I will just edit my post. Its not that I get a response to this thread from SPW Industries or Urban Import anyways.

For the record, I went and able to talk to SPW Industries warehouse in LA. They cant seem to find what the wiggle is. They also claimed that the wiggle is normal, which isnt.

Thought Id update this cuz I might confuse people for giving this a thumbs up here and a thumbs down on other thread.

try putting some sort of rubber washer in between the bottom part and the locknut. maybe a ruber band some how... either that or work out more j/p...

I can wiggle my Hayame's too. It's the connection betwean the part of the strut that has the spring on it and the bottom that's connected to the lower control arm. There are not enough threads drilled into the bottom part of the coilover and that makes the upper part wiggle within it. The third lock-nut comes loose because of this. It's NOT normal!!! It's supposed to be stiff as all hell.

Mine are the V2's BTW. I'm taking them off soon and putting my OEM suspension back on. I will try to verify the problem and then fix it somehow.

Currently, I have my car in the shop to get rid of the wiggle. The way I asked them to do it?

Get rid of the whole Hayame suspension and install my new B+G S3

Im going to pay a visit to SPW Industries' LA warehouse tomorrow with my RMA#, return the V2, and get my refund

Just got back from dropping the Hayame to SPW Industries today. I told Noah that I really hate that it has to come to this point. He replied "its okay bro, not a problem at all."

I should be credited by UrbanImport soon.

well I just got a response: "We have spoken to Hayame at great lengths regarding this, and they nor us feel that these reasons are valid for return"

this is probably from a Dezod Rep who doesn't know much about the problem. I know I'm at least entitled to a return/exchange for the v2, as Hayame has done for numerous members already, but the v2s are just as bad.

any updates?
