Unhappy Issues after Installing Speakers

I installed rear speakers on my civic yesterday. It was quite a pain in the butt, as I'm sure many of you have done it before and realized you have to remove the entire back portion of your car (or so it seems!)

Anyways...my problem.

I removed everything and installed the speakers just fine. However, the plastic trim which covers the speakers (the final one you need to remove to reveal them) was a pain in the *** to reinstall. Although it's on there right now (as best my friend and I could get it) and it looks "okay," it's not perfect.

When looking from the outside rear of the car, you can see the exhaust holes and the edge of the plastic trim. I couldn't get it to go down the way it was before. In the past, the black border on the bottom of the glass hid the exhaust holes and the edge of the plastic.

I've reassmbled everything in the back of the car.

Can anyone offer advice to fixing the plastic and maybe being able to get it down to where it belongs? It really was a pain in the butt to try to reinstall it...and taking the entire back apart again is not something I'm sure I want to do. So any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It's been almost a year since I did my '01 install, but reinstallation of the rear panel was a bit tricky. You should have noticed a bunch of white plugs mounted into the underside of the panel that secure it to the metal frame - did you damage or lose any of them? Also - if I remember right, the panel itself has to be inserted from an angle and then lowered into place.

Hope this helps.....

Thanks for the response, Coop.

I remember the little while plugs. Although I can't be 100% sure, I'm confident I didn't break any of them, at least not while removing the trim.

It was difficult to put it back in at an "angle" because of the fact that there was a lip on the front end of the trim.

I would assume if I wanted to fix it, I'd have to remove everything all over again and give it another go?

yes (sorry to have to tell you that). When you take it off this time, make sure all the plugs come OUT - they slide into the trim panel slots and if you don't loosen them from the underside before removing the panel they may not come out when you pop it off. Use pliers to squeeze them out from the underside. Make sure the panel is the FIRST thing you put back in (there's a good DIY on this in the DIY section)

Thanks again, Coop.

I guess what I don't understand is this:

The trim/bezel (whatever it's "correctly" called) isn't "snapping down" (I would assume) the way it's supposed to. I don't understand why pushing down on it wouldn't simply fix the problem.

I guess I'm hoping for an easier solution than take it all apart again.

If, though, that's the only solution, thanks again.

Here are the pics. Hopefully someone has some ideas.

Otherwise I'll start ripping my poor car apart on Friday.

And another...

Third and last one...

909 will become famous soon enough
I just did this on the weekend:

Rip out what you need to get full access to the rear panel. remove it completely. It's not engaging because the white plugs are stuck to the metal and not your plastic panel. Simplly follow coop's directions and install it on an angle. Use the palm of your hand and give it a few hard slaps. It might not fully engage. If that's the case pop open your trunk, lay down so you're facing the speakers, and you'll see the white plugs. Use a pair of neednose plyers if they need to be re-aligned , once they're in the holes, you may find they're not fully engaging. Use a SMALL flathead, you'll see a small slot in the base of the white plug where you can stick in a small flathead to get some leverage, by pulling down from there this will force the white plugs to snap into place.

I just took out a few of my white plugs. You only need about half of them anyways.
