Performed 60,000 mi Maintenance Today WOOHOO!!

Replaced my Spark Plugs ($44) DENSO PKJ20CR-M11
Flushed Engine Coolant ($4)
Replaced Manual Transmission Fluid ($16)
Replaced Brake Fluid (Bleed Method) ($5)
Replace Wiper Blades ($14)
Oil change ($9)
Rotate Tires ($0)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Total Cost $92

Total for everything took about 3 hours.

I did cabin air filter 6 months ago along with air filter.

I dont know how much the dealer charges but I'm glad I found this site. Everything was simple to do.

If someone needs help I could help during a meet or whenever I have time.
I live in Rockville, MD.

Yes. It wasnt hard. I bought 4 3 ton Jack stands (found below) and a 2.5 ton jack from advance auto parts 5 weeks ago for around $45.

Nice! I think dealer charges $500 for all that. Maintenance can definately be diy most of the time. Only thing I do at the dealer is oil and brake fluid change. The rest are pretty easy.

In the civic manual it shows that you drain the engine coolant and take out the coolant container (white plastic thing that holds the engine coolant before going into the radiator) and empty that to. So I went to Advance Auto Parts and got there pre-mad engine-coolant mix for around $4. I didnt need more then the gallon I bought. I refilled the radiotor with the pre-mixed coolant and also the little container storing the coolant. I'm leaving to Miami, FL (with Girlfriend) this weekend (Saturday night). I'll raise my car and take a pic of the two bolts you need to use to flush your manual transmission fluid. Someone PM'd me asking me so I will just post a pic either friday or saturday mourning.

I'm due for a 30k mile maint and I don't wanna get buttraped by Herson's who will probably damage some part of my car, notice aftermarket parts, void my warranty, and not do the services I'm paying them to do.

I live 10 minutes from Rockville Pike, off of Muddy Branch Road. Care to help?

The white container would be the overflow and yeah 1 gallon is right according to my manual. I prefer Honda Coolant but you probably won't notice a difference with the cheap stuff. Have a good vacation.

haha, Herson himself is a nice guy. He sponsors many Kickboxing Tournaments and Tae Kwon Do Tournaments in this area (Montgomery College, etc). The problem is that the way he pays everyone is by commision. Even his mechanics get paid by how much work they perform and by each job they do. So a simple 60,000mi maintenace will take them 1.5-2 hours and they charge as if it took 3 hours because thats how long it is expected to take.

At 30,000 miles you should:
- Replace air filter.
- Replace cabin air filter (found behind glove compartment)
- change oil and oil filter
- Rotate Tires (I have tires that last 40k, so I rotate every 10k mi)
- I would also check brake pad wear (since car will already have front tires off
for rotation)

* I may have miss some things but that those are what you should do.

I can help but just not this weekend or next. I'm 2 days in Orlando, FL and 5 days in Miami, FL. So I get back Satuday Night and will just relax on Sunday May 19. I can help the weekend after that.

I got the DENSO PKJ20CR-M11 plugs. DIY Spark Plug Change

I have two Spark Plug Sockets for changing the spark plug. One has a rubber sponge in it, and the other does not. When taking out the spark plug I use the one with the rubber sponge in it, while when putting the spark plug back in I use the socket without the rubber sponge.

Spark Splug with sponge rubber plug holder from Sears $4

Spark Splug without sponge rubber plug holder from Sears $2.50

Just about everything you need is either in your manual or on this site except for a DIY on replacing the Manual Transmission Fluid, and replacing the Brake Fluid. I'll make a DIY for those once I return from FL.

Rotating Tires is easy. No DIY needed for this.
Flushing engine Coolant DIY is found in your Owners Manual.
Replacing Manual Transmission Fluid - I will make a DIY with pics once I return from FL.
Replacing Brake Fluid - In the post below by Mex.
Replace Wiper Blades - In Civic Owners Manual.
Spark Plug DIY
Oil Change DIY

Replacing (Bleeding) your Brake Fluid (courtesy of Boilermaker1 located in this thread):

Jack the whole car up... front and back. Pull all 4 wheels. Locate the bleeder valves. On the fronts they're on the top of the piston housing towards the back side of the caliper. On the drums, they're inconveiently located right under the upper control arm bushing. Why Honda put them there, I don't know... you can't get to them easily and its a pain. Second bitching point, you need a 10 mm wrench for the front, 8mm for the rear. Again... why can't we standardize these things? Its not hard. I thought the Japanese were effeciency experts.
Anyways... you go with the one farthest from the Master Cylinder first. So right rear. Put the 1/4" hose over the end of the bleeder after removing the cap, aim the other end into the deli container, get someone to depress the pedal, crack the bleeder, close it, then release the pedal. You don't want to put the pedal to the floor... just about 75%. All you want to do is blow fluid through the system. Do it a couple times, then add more fluid to the reservoir. It is wise to use a different color fluid like ATE Superblue because the color changes when all the old stuff is flushed out. ATE also sells Type 200 Gold... which is Superblue but gold in color.
Bleed until you've got clean fluid and no air, Right Rear, Left Rear, Right Front, Left Front, make sure the reservoir is topped off (the MAX line), close it and put the wheels back on. Put the car down.
Manual Transmission Fluid was talked about in the thread
