did i mess up bad and how do i fix it???

when i was installing my coilovers, i used the fork tool from kragen to pop out the tie rod end from the old shock

i don't think i tear anything but i pushed the inner rubber piece up. now the inner part is stuck upward. a lot of grease came out

how do i replace the rubber piece? they sell the rubber piece for like $2.50 and the whole tie rod end for like $50. i want to save the money since i still need $$ for alignment

do i need to remove the tie rod from the car. use a press machine to press out the old rubber piece and press in a new one?

how do i do this??

this is how it looks like now, as u can see, the inner part is no where touch the shock like how its suppose to

Man..that sux...next time...GO SLOW. lol

Just go to your local Honda dealership and see if they can hook ya up with something. If that doesn't work, check a junk yard for a beat up/wrecked 7thgen. Tear off the tie-rod end and you're golden. But wrecked vic's are hard to come by where I live, so good luck. lol

I used the tie-rod fork too, worked like a charm, but I did tear the bushing...bad thing, but I'm not too worried. It's just some grease right...lol. j/k replacements are on their way..

This is seriously not that big of a deal! Autozone or Checker have these available. They don't fit quite the same as Honda's but they are more than sufficient. They are also red which might look cool with your suspension.

Anyway unless you are really strong you will probably just need a friend to step on coilover arm while you align the rod. I didn't need any special tools to get the boot off. Just a little elbow grease. Speaking of grease, don't forget to pick some more up while you're at the store.

Good luck!

Edited for spelling.

In time the grease will dissapear so you will most likely have lots of squeaking. It is possible it could wear out the joint faster too which could in turn affect handling. It's something you could let go for a few days or so but you definately want to fix as soon as you can.

If anyone would like a DIY for this I could probably cook something up. It's actually pretty simple to replace.

Its now actually $2085 MSRP, the exchange rate bumped it up... but thats beside the point.

If the boot is still whole, can you see a way to just re-inject grease into it? Possibly flip up the bottom lip of the boot and squirt some back in?

Oh yeah, try this tool next time...

Tierods yes. Boots possibly. My allignment is pulling to the right but I did alot more than just replace the boot. I was in the process of swapping out my engine as well.

I didn't use the tool Boilmaker has. That will make the job even easier. You could probably borrow one from Checker or Autozone.

I think it's just reffered to as a "tie rod remover". I'll look it up in my Honda manual when I get home tonight.

The best way to pop tie rods out is use a hammer to strike the side of the knuckle where the joint is and it will pop right out. Some people dont like to do it that way cause there is a risk of hitting the stud with the hammer and fooking it up. But ont the other hand using the fork ***** up the boot. But as for if you change the whoel tie rod, YES it should have the alignment checked. Can you get by with out changing the boot cause it has a tear in it? yes it mostlikely will last a long time before it wears out from exposure to the elements

Wow I just looked at my tie rod end and it looks exactly like the second picture. At first I thought something was wrong, but I guess it is supposed to look that way.

Am I correct ?

I will have to take one either tonight or tommorow. So the rubber hat (or whatever it is called) Is not supposed to be lopsided ? It is supposed to sit straight ?

As long as it is retaing the greese you should be fine. If you see it seeping out then that's a sign that it needs adjustment.

Ya you just press it down although sometimes it's easier said then done. The "hat" has a very hard rim around it.

I don't think you would here noises for a long while. You would probably have to get dirt or debri in there as well. It's just one of those things that if you don't fix, it will eventually catch up with you. ;-)

manh, I hate taking that Fu(king tie rod out. I've used the tie rod remover, the fork and the hammering technique but i still ended up damaging the boot a little. After driving it for a few weeks, I think the grease ran out and when i'm turning hard out of my drive way, I can hear a little "clink!" I hate that shiznit! Need to replace that boot but I'm not sure if you can just replace the boot or buy the whole tie rod that is attached to it.

Having those tierod ends damaged will that affect the alignment of the car ? As asked above, once they are replaced you will need another alignment.

Always start with the cheapest part. In this case the boot. If noise doesn't go away. Then look into repair \ replacement of the tie rod.

i popped the rubber back out by squeezing the sides. i went to autozone and bought a grease gun with a needle injector. i squeezed the sides of the rubber so that i could get a small room for the needle to slide thru. packed it with grease. now its all good.
