can someone reccommend some aftermarket speakers for my car?
can someone reccommend some aftermarket speakers for my car?
i'm looking for something that'll fit into the front and rear deck without any major cutting away at the door. i understand that i need a spacer for the fronts but i'm not willing to cut away sheetmetal to fit some gigantic components in my doors. the trunk springs also restrict my choice of rear speakers to those that dont have gigantic magnets.
i also want something that'll be bassy because i dont want subs in my trunk. is this possible? so far all the stores have been telling me it's not possible to get bassy 6x9's but i remember being in a 5th gen civic hatch and the 6x9's produced a ton of bass.
anyways, pls reccommend some speakes for me. also if possible, it would be great if i can have a listen to your setup. i'm at bcit on weekdays

go down to soundworks jamie will show you whats good. he has a set of Phoenix gold mids and tweets that are cheap and sound good. i think he just got a bunch of display boards in too so you can hear the speakers for yourself. you can crank the stock speakers up really loud if you filter all the bass to subs. i honestly think the stock speakers sound really good no distortion at all when i blast it because all the bass has been filtered out to the sub.
during the past week, i've been listening to many different brands and models
i've been to visions, beamriders, futureshop(they had the shietiest sales guy and showcase), ralph's radio, etc
no one had any bassy speakers or their wall setup sucked.
i'm going to meet up with another 7th gen owner who has type r comps. he told me his speakers produced quite a bit of bass. if what he said is true, i'll probably end up buying similar speakers.
also, i talked to a machinist friend of mine and he said he could cut my sheetmetal doors for me. i guess cutting the doors is lnow less of an issue because this guy is very good at what he does. there wont be any ugly jagged edges when he's done.

btw, as for stock speakers they do suck..hehe...(well not bad for stock though)
i changed the rears last year and there was a noticeable difference in treble. it's more crisp and clear now.
i now want a little more bass from my speakers. i dont have a sub anymore and dont want to install another one.
oh, and more thing. it seems that 7th gen stock cd players dont output a flat response. it's almost impossible to hook up a subwoofer by using an high to low convertor hooked up to the deck's speaker outputs. all you'll get is very very nasty rubbling basss. it's not even close to being punchy

you probably arent getting the full output of the stock speakers because once i had changed my deck i noticed a huge difference in sound. of course they arent as good as aftermarket ones but the reason i didn put in new speakers is because im not keeping this car so it would be pointless to put them in when im not sure if they can be put into my new car. If you want damn good sound go buy some MB quarts soundworks is a dealer for them. but they are damn pricey. you get what you pay for though. if you want good bass i stilll suggest buying a sub. you can get some pretty good phoenixgold stuff for a pretty good price now a days too.

and i did have a sub but sold it since i wasn't making good use of it...
btw, care to let me have a listen to your stock speakers w/ aftermarket HU? do you still attend bcit?
icic...
anyways, today i took a good listen to a set of Alpine Type R speakers in a 7th gen coupe
they're damn sweet...there was tons of bass...i'm really loving those things....
rears produced tons of bass...fronts produced a good amount of bass too....when using stock fronts, there's absolutely no bass from the front speakers
i'm almost sure i'll be buying the type r's. i'll prolly even do the trunk shocks so i can fit larger 6x9's in the back

reference series have such small magnets...i'm afraid it wont produce the amount of bass i'm looking for...heh...
anyways, infinity is on my short list but i'll most likely go with alpines unless someone can let me hear a set of infinities installed in a 7th gen civic...
i'd rather go with something that i know will sound good versus something i've never heard in a 7th gen before.
store demos dont seem to be a good representation of what speakers will sound like inside a car. i've been to about 5 different places and none of the comps produced any bass when installed in a wall...
btw, did i mention futureshop has the worst demos??? everything sounded like crap in their audio room...even that sales guy was annoying...
