thinkin about switchin the oil to mobil 1 synthetic oil? about 33,000 miles on my 02 civic now, waht u think its too late or its oky? also do i needed to flush out my engine before to put that synthetic oil in there?

i check some local auto shop, but so hard to find these 5w 20 synthetic oil.....

also any DIY for oil change, thinin about doing that myself, cuz most shop charges like 50 for synthetic oil service........

one more question, so i run synthetic like couple years later, can i switch back to regular oil?

just buy a filter and 4 qts of mobil 1, i put in 10w30 and it runs awesome. i switched to synthetic around 40k miles, not necessary to flush the engine.
oh i also reccomend getting fram sure drain.

Yeah I change my own oil all the time. I use the Moble 1 0W weight. It's the recommended substitue for our cars if you read the back of the container. I like how it runs. A little strange in the winter, but summer it's pretty good. I always use the Honda filter though.

Also make sure you are changing the plug washer each time. You can get that from Honda too.

I thought about the Fram thing, but decided to just forget it. .

Well it seems everyone has their theory on oil weight....
I run 5W-30 in the summer, 0W-30 in the winter. I think you can still switch over no problem. Oil change is easy. Paying someone to do it is a waste, I bet you can probably change your own faster than they would. Undo the drain bolt, take off the filter, put on new filter, put the drain bolt back in, refill. Thats it.

Yes, you can switch back from synthetic to regular oil as many times as you want and it will not effect the car except of course by using regular oil you do not reap the benefits of the syntec blend.

oky, so mobil 1 has 5w-20, i'm goin to check that out later today, some peps said Costo's is cheaper......

so if i want to change oil, so i needed to warm up the car first before drail the oil out right? also some peps said that our oil filter is hard to reach is that true?

Synthetic is often thinner than its conventional counterpart at the same rating. AND Synthetic doesn't goo up as it gets old and dirty.... so you don't really need 5W-20, and thats just what Honda "recommends". 5W-30 is a little thicker, but it'll give you extra protection and be better in the long run if you're flogging it. I know some EP and RSX guys on Honda-tech were running 10W-40 through K20s last summer for track days and such.

i pay $3.80/quart for 5w20 amsoil... its good.. but i think ill go back to 5w30 next time around...

The best thing that you can do for your car is having a regular oil change. For people that drives a lot and mostly city driving I would recommend every 5,000km to 8,000km. This is more often than what is recommended by Honda but it is better to change oil more often. It is never too late to change to synthetic oil. You can always go back to regular oil. You don’t need to flush your oil every time you do your oil change. But it is a good idea to flush your oil before winter and after winter. This is for people who live in extreme cooled weather (-10 and up). In extreme cooled weather you will have to use a 0w 30 or 0w 20 oil. If you live in Vancouver Canada where winter is only like -5. You can use a 5w 30 or 5w 20 oil. It is not recommended to run 10w 30 because it is too thick. Yes some people run 10w 30 and they say their car runs great. Me personally I run mobile 1 synthetic 5w 30 for summer and winter and I use purelator filters. Don’t use fram filters or any cheap filters. They are cheap for a reason.

DIY on changing oil

You will need
1 floor jack it is faster this way, but if your car is lowered you have to use the jack that came with our cars.
2 jack stand
1 cardboard or creeper
1 oil drain container
1 oil filter remover that fit our oil filter

This is how I do my oil change some people will do it differently

1. Run the car for 10 min and turn off
2. Jack the car up and use jack stands for safety
3. Put oil drain container under oil pan drain bolt.
4. Remove oil pan drain bolt and washer. Use some rubber gloves because oil will be hot.
5. Unscrew oil filter 360 degrees to drain remaining oil from filter.
6. After all the oil is drained from the filter remove oil filter make sure to remove oil filter and rubber seal.
7. Install new oil filter hand tight and put some oil on the rubber seal.
8. Install drain bolt and washer
9. fill it up with oil on our cars it will take 3.79L estimate
10. Turn on the car for 30sec do not rev the engine
11. Check for oil level on the dip stick add if needed
