04 gauge LED temperature...

so....

04 gauges have LEDs lighting up the gauges. bewteen the actual gauge face and LED is a white plastic cover so it spreads the 4 LED lights per gauge face evenly all over the gauge face. question is, planning to filter out the white led for red by placing a red filter in between the white plastic cover and guage face, is the filter gonna melt????

thanks

I've been wondering how that works. So the LEDs are white, and I guess a filter would work. It would be better probably to replace the white LEDs with bright red ones. Don't know how they're installed, though.

Anyway, to answer your question--LED lights don't really heat up at all. You can go buy a cheap one and some resistors and see if it gets hot. I doubt you'll even feel any heat.

you should be able to use lighting gels, like what they use for stage lighting. those shouldn't melt from LEDs, seeing how the lights they're in front of are a lot hotter.

Hey, great idea. If the LEDs actually get hot. You can get lots of stage gels from partsexpress.com
