So..... It's one of two theories that I'm working on.....
I was down by Yorkville for dinner with the wifey, and I parked on Bloor street... Due to the high snowbanks, I have to park a bit outer than usual, as does everyone else...
So, what you end up having is about 1.8 lanes of space for people to drive on heading west, and east on bloor. I turn off the car, and eyeball my mirror to look for cars before opening the door.... Holy cow, taxi screaming down the street, and it turns into the 'half' lane... The lane closest to the parked cars, and it's a tight fit... I prepare to get out of the car, and put stuff away, etc. Then, BOOM. Sounded like someone hit my window with a fist...
WTF?!
I look out and all I see is the taxi screaming past my car (he's already past my car), and he's swerving a bit, and his ENTIRE FUGGING MIRROR IS DANGLING, flying around!!!
"WHAT THE FAWK!" I quickly try to look at his plates, but he's already too far
I could only partially make it out. It's a dark blue Lincoln town car'ish car, with a rider in the back (taxi light's off)....
I quickly look at my mirror, and it's still there!
I jump out in hopes of this focker being nice enough to pull over when safe, etc... No such luck.
Now I'm pissed...
I get back to my car, and slowly inspect the mirror... It looks perfectly fine....
WTF??? No scratches, not loose, nothing... The mirror itself isn't cracked, or even pushed to an awkward angle! WTF??? Did "teh new hotness" get focked by a taxi, and lived to tell the story, without a scratch to prove it?
I was pissed, and now understand why in Japan they have folding mirrors, as do some import cars....
I'm still pissed about it, and would be super pissed if my mirror fell off....
Now, here's the 'other' theory, as I try to understand why the hell MY mirror didn't fall off... It doesn't make sense!
It could be that his mirror was already broken off, dangling, and as he made the lane change, the dangling mirror started to sway back and forth, and as he passed my car, he simply hit my mirror without breaking it off.... But, when I was looking at the taxi in my mirror when it was behind my car, I didn't notice anything swaying, and..... Why the hell would he swerve? i.e. he should have been smart enough to not drive like an idiot with a dangling mirror....
So................
In the end.... Pay the extra fee and park in underground parking... "teh new hotness" doesn't deserve to have it's ears ripped off!

Sorry to hear.
Same thing happend to a friend on the weekend. We went out and he drove in a kia rental car. When we go out of the place at like 4 ish, no cars just his their and his passager side mirror was dangling by the wire. I felt so bad for the guy. Its a rental as it is and Kia was gonna charge him $230 for the mirror plus a $75 service charge. Shitty

Find out what taxi company it was and call then. Tell them you're gonna file a Hit and Run report with the Police if they don't find out who the taxi driver was. Inspect your entire car for any sort of damage and get them to pay for it (whether you think the cab did it or not).
That ***** not right man... don't let them get away with it.

maybe his mirror was already dangling and it just happened jump up and hit your rear window just as he passed by. i don't think he could have hit your mirror and not caused at least a few scratches on it.

I'd rather have a taxi hit my car then just someone cause then you can at least call the cab company and try to figure something out. Better than having someone else take it off and not get their plate and have no way to identify them.
Hey man wouldn't be complaining I took mine off when I first got the car at mcds, my dad replaced it though phew.
But if you know the taxi company I'm sure there can't be too many taxies driving around with that description with a mirror ripped off. Find out which one had to get fixed and noted before find some damage and get it fixed at their expense.
