H4 light bulbs
Hello guys
My PIAA H4 extreme white light bulbs just burned out yesterday due to the weather i think..... so i went to this store @ pacific mall called "Top Notch" and the guy there suggested me this brand "Nokya 7000K" for $25.... i know this is nothing compared to PIAA or Philips silver vision whatsoever since they cost almost 5 times more than this..... but I just wanna know what do you guys think of this light bulb.. how does it look like...???!?!?!
thanks in advance for any replies.......

i only use bosch cool whites 120/110w i have had these in my car for just about a year now and i have no problems with them, the way i see it why spend what 30 dollars every time your lights burn out, just buy them right the first time. i spent only 90 on mine and i have no complaints.

Check with the place you bought your PIAA's from. I know everywhere around here offer a 1 year warranty on PIAA's so maybe they might too.
i have Xenon blue/white bulbs made by Toucan. ive had them since december of 2002 and they havent blown out. they costed me $17. i ordered similar bulbs from www.4caroption.com i got a set in H4 and H7. the h4's were for my sisters 01 eclipse gt and the h7 was for my cousins 03 celica gt. they were both $12 a piece. havent installed the h4's into the eclipse but i have installed the h7's into the celica. the bulbs did not look blue at all in the celica. i guess its due to its projector headlights. hope this helps u out somewhat
If I recall correctly, most places only honour a 90day return
Even then, they look at you funny when you try to get a new set under warranty... They eyeball you as if you rubbed hte bulbs between your fingers for 5 minutes before installing it.
Hey Smartidiot, how do you bulbs look like?? (i.e. what makes them look 'used'?) I have 2 sets of PIAA Xtremes here burnt out. 2 of the bulbs have a 'blob' in the glass where it some how expanded (but did not burst), and they also have this black haze on the glass... Along with the usual filament inside no longer connected on both ends.
I bought a set of "F1 SpecR" from AutoBas (I think they're now called AutoBas) at their retail store along Midland, for $10! Unbelieveable. Output sucks, but I can't remember how the PIAAs look like, so I can't really compare. And, I've had them for quite some time....
As well, here's the thing. Hi Tech Auto long Sheppard Ave is an official PIAA distriibutor, yet they sell PIAA bulbs from Japan (i.e. with Japanese words); I don't think they can offer a warranty on those.... ???

well..... i havent really got time to take out my burned out PIAA bulbs yet.. (dang weather!!).. i will prolly do it this weekend hopefully when i have time.....lol...now i kidda thin its not really worth it to spend over a bill just for buying a pair of light bulbs.. i mean. yeah. PIAA are definitely better than most of other brands.... ....... at least many of my friends liked it.... but honestly......... i really think it's a bit too costy...... however............
i dont understand what does Slimmkis mean by getting a right "wattage" light bulbs..!??!.. what is the right wattage for our civic?!?!!...i thought the only differnt of the H4 light bulbs are if they are 4000k, 6100k, or 7000k?!?!..... can anyone explain this to me...... i dont remember i've seen the wattage of Nokya h4 bulbs on the box that day......
ps: So nobody here has had a Nokya light bulbs installed on their cars yet......ehh.........okay.. i am starting to worry now....

3 things to remember:
- ACTUAL wattage of bulbs. We take H4 55W/60W bulbs. The reason why both are listed is because 55W means the low beam, 60W for the high beam... (Something like that)... Because we have a dual filament (high and low beam all in one bulb)
- "output of 110W/100W" .. This kinda stuff is confusing. This is basically marketing doing their thing... They mess with the kelvin (colour output), and mark a set of bulbs as "light looks like it's 110W, but runs at 55W" kinda thing... Be sure not to buy actual 110W bulbs, or you will melt your light harness, and possibly your entire headlight assembly
- kelvin -> The pretty colours. 3200k is you usual yellowy HID colours, 4100k is your usual whitey HID, 5000k is your usual blue, 6000k your usual purple I believe... Something like that.
- lumens, actual about of light... Usually HID boxes boast about 3X the number of lumens... Bulbs are usuall in the 1000 - 1450 lumens range I believe, HID at 2400-3200 lumens...

If you want something whiter than stock (not blue), slightly brighter, and 100% legal I would recommend the Sylvannia Silverstars. I have a set on my EL and am very happy with them. You can get them at Crappy Tire for about $20 a bulb.

lasted me about six months.
the pairs i bought from Pink lasted more than a year...i am serious and surprised at them. for $10 and i put them on since Aug, 02 and up to now it is still going....although they dont have the brightest output but it looked cool from the colour of the light
as for teh silverstar, they are good for the price and it is all white (even the lens of the bulb) so i wont get harrass by like the all blue tinted bulbs i used before

well the PIAA are good but they are too blue and attract too many cops
i sat behine the PIAA and silverstar nad honestly i think the visibility is the same and the distance of beam pattern shooting out is the same
so i went with something more low-profile and i am happy with it
piaa is made in japan
silverstar is made in germany (depend which bulb) and i like german stuffs more...just a preferences

Try MTEC bulbs the 2x set. I have a set and they are the best bulbs you can get. They also have a 6 month or 1 year warranty. They are comparable to the PIAA brand and are made in Japan. Try them out, you won't regret buying them. Price for them is $50 CAD.

Reddevil,
Have you tried other bulbs besides the MTECs? I'm curous if you've been able to compare them or if they're your first set and you just really like them. I'm looking for something brighter than stock, but not too blue.

whitedaze
I've tried Sylvania Cool Blues, my brother has Silverstars in his, and so far the MTEC bulbs are the brightest. They are more white with a slight blue, but brighter than stock. Much cheaper than Silverstars and Piaa.
