autocross tuning
i have a 2001 honda civic lx, and ive finally figured out what i want to do with it
. basically i want an all engine autocross car. ive made a list of all the parts ill be buying, so tell me if theres something that i missed or something that is completely unnecessary. here it goes:
high compression (11:1) pistons/rings/rods
rims(just to look good)
coilovers(the realy kind)
exhaust(headers/everything else)
spark plugs/plug wires
440cc+ fuel injectors
valves/valve springs
camshaft
cam gear
sway bars
strut bar
tru-power pulleys
clutch
flywheel
battery
head gasket(to handle higher compression in engine)
port/polish heads
brake kit
70mm throttle body
limited slip differential
so if i missed something just leave a message with the price of the item, thanks to all those who help me out here
. and yes i am crazy for deciding to do this to a stock 1.7L engine . but thats not the point of this post so plz dont flame me that i can do all this to a better car.

and yes i know ive posted many times and many different things, but ive finally talked with some people who actually do this and have decided this is the best way to go
Hell I'm building an all motor AC car too.Not gonna go too crazy on the exterior and just gonna finish my stereo then go nuts on suspension and engine. Hell I see nothing wrong with buildign a D17 engine, sure it's not gonna reach huge HP numbers or anything but you will get a bullet proof engine and for me since it's the only car i'll prolly have for a while it will be fun just to tweak the engine for all it's worth!
Well first of all our cars don't use spark plug wires, so you don't need those. Second of all, and I'm not slamming you, just get out their and learn your car to begin with. Someone with a stock Civic who KNOWS how to drive autocross will beat a beginner in a Civic with all those mods you listed anyday. The best mod would be for YOU not your car - experience. I've been autocrossing for 2 1/2 years, which by no means makes me an expert, and I already have beaten cars that I should have had NO chance against. I don't mean to bring you down, but by the time you are good enough to take on the top guys, you'll probably be ready to trade your Civic in for something else.

^^ more or less^^^
Autocross is one of the few motorsports where you can add Hp to the car and actually be slower.....
Example: In my region I run STS, not a very preped class. There is a kid here that runs SM (Street Modified) a very preped class. Hes got a 94 civic hatch which he recently droped a B16 in. now He was on average 1 to 2 seconds slower then me when He had the Mostly stock D16. when he droped in the B series engine...... that extended to 2 to 3 seconds slower.... He blames being slower on his tires, but its all driver error.
Its all about control, as in how well you can control your car. the more power you have the more control you are going to need to use it right. Thats why I greatly respect the good Corvette drivers..... that takes some amazing control.
its great that you are interested in autocross, and that you want to build up the car as much as you do, but if your starting with that setup its going to slow your learning curve down a lot. the best place to learn the sport is in the stock classes on some rock hard tries....... now that teaches car control.
but what you do with your car is your business, The important part is that you have fun autocrossing and keep the shiny side up... Because thats the point after all, To have fun.
