Alpine MRD-M500
Just wanted to kno if any one has ever used this amp. I have it and i was running two rockford punch HX2's but when i turn it up the amp just shuts down. I was asking around about it and people told me that it was because the new alpine amps have a safety fearture on it so that you wouldnt wreck the amp. Any one have any ideas what kind of subs i should run with this amp? I was thinkin bout two 12 type R's. Anyone else that has n e experience with this amp help me out and any outher input is appreciated. Thanks.
I haven't heard of them having any problems. I have the Alpine M350 and T220. Never had any problems w/ either of them.
The problems is the speakers don't match the amp very well.
Your amp is designed to put out max power at 2 ohms, or half power at 4 ohms.
2 ohms = 500 rms, 1000 max
4 ohms = 250 rms, 500 max
Your speakers are dual 4 ohm. That means after all the wiring in series and parallel combinations they can result in either a 4 ohm or 1 ohm load. If you have them all in parallel you end up w/ a 1 ohm load and that amp will keep shutting down just like you said. If you wire them into the 4 ohm load they will run all day long, but the amp will only put out about 250 total to each.

I'd bet money you have them all wired in parallel, giving you a 1 ohm load, and its too much for the amp. If you buy another M500 that would fix the problem. One amp for each woofer and it would put out 1000 to each woofer. That would slam.
Single DVC 4 ohm, wired in parallel, 2 ohm picture:

Good luck.
