Hondas anti-Roll bar confusion

ok, this is weird.

I was under the impression that the 01-02 civics specifically the EX had a 25.4mm front anti-roll bar and a 12mm rear.....

after some reasearch I've found that Honda has been screwing with the suspension each year....

01 EX (For both Coupe and Sedan)
Front 25.4mm
Rear 12mm
01 LX
Front 25.4mm
Rear (N/A)
01 HX
Front 25.4mm
Rear (N/A)
01 DX
Front 25.4mm
Rear (N/A)

02 EX Coupe....
F 25.4mm R 13MM (Honda Changed it!)
02 LX Coupe
F 25.4mm R 13MM (Added a rear bar)
02 DX Coupe
F 25.4mm R (N/A)
02 HX Coupe
F 25.4mm R (N/A)

Here is where it gets interesting,
02 EX Sedan........
F 22.2mm R 13mm
02 LX sedan
F 22.2mm R 13mm
02 DX sedan
F 22.2mm R (N/A)

whats the deal??? the sedan gets a smaller front bar in 02??

03 has very little info out.. (At least I couldn't find any)

the 04 gets screwed..

EX and LX coupes are the only ones that get anti-roll bars and they are droped to
15.9mm Front and 12mm rear wich is caried over to the sedan.

so apparently honda has yet to make up their mind on how the civic is suppose to ride like and handle like....

Good find! I approved your post

Very weird info, tho. I wonder what Honda's thinking was.

Maybe they were thinking " it's an economy car...they don't even need a sway bar...but we'll but some small ones on to keep it from being too sloppy"

Or maybe they were hitting the ganja and thought it would be funny.

I got the 02 ex coupe... and i think it's got the stiffest set up, but it can be a little on the harsh side (for a factory setting). I notice it the most when i drive over this road that has a bunch of hugh tree roots pushing the pavement up. I've driven my friend's ex sedan and i can definitely tell the difference in the chassis (4 cutouts for the doors) and the suspension set up.

My 03 had a 15mm front and I think 12 or 13mm in the rear. They probably decreased the size of the front bar to reduce understeer, but it had more body roll than a fat man sitting on the living room couch.

you got it mixed up. They reduced the size of the front bar to INCREASE understeer and DECREASE oversteer.

Uh, I though a bigger front bar increased understeer and a bigger rear bar increased oversteer. I could be wrong. My 27mm progress bar induces more understeer than the stock front bar did, well actually it seems like it keeps excess oversteer in check. I guess its the front and rear difference thats important. ?

^^ It depends on what honda did with the Spring rates....^^^

If Honda left the same spring rates and just downsized the Front Bar then yes you would get less understeer and more body roll, but honda probably changed the spring rates too, so who knows.

yeah but you have the set of bars. If you just put the 27mm rear bar on then you would increase oversteer. Zzyzx just took his front bar off all together and has increased his oversteer.

I have an 03' EX with 16/19 combo and I think turn-in is better plus you can rotate the rear better than the stock 16/12,or13? combo it came with. However, this setup is far from balanced and I'm now thinking of going with a 25.4 front with the progress 22mm rear. The 16/12 stock setup is horrible, body roll reminiscent of my mother's old minivan. For this reason I doubt honda changed the spring rates much, if at all. Poor Renamazazo, I thought 16/12 was bad but no sway bars at all must have been hell.

may have something to do if the weights of the cars are different too - they changed / tweaked lots of things between model years, this just may be to accomodate the other changes they made, who knows....
