amping stocks?
Hey,
I had to sell my components for financial reasons, so I put my stocks back in. I still have a US Acoustics USX2100 lying around. It claims to put out 100w x 2 @ 4 ohms. Will this be too much power for the stocks to handle?
thx in advance

heh
do you know if this amp really does put out 100w? or is it over/underrated? haven't really had any experiences with US acoustics...
edit:
A friend gave me this amp, and I haven't really hooked it up to anything yet...

i dunno about over or underrated, its not a perfectly clean signal, but hey, neither are my hifonics amplifiers.
my buddy took first at SQ running a US accoustics amp in the pro class this summer! so its capable equipment.
regardless, 15 watts peak versus 100 watts rms? even if they are 8 ohm speakrs, I would think it'd be pushing it

U.S. acoustic makes nice amps for the price and im sure it puts out what its rated at. I had 50 on my stocks in my old 02 vic just while i was waiting for my brother to finish my fiberglass kick panels so they could get painted and it killed the 6x9s and im sure the 6.5 wernt good for to much longer. The stock speakers suck horribly and are only good about 35 watts

what you COULD do9, if you dont care about fading front to rear, is wire the front right with the rear right in series, same with teh other side, and present each channel with an 8 ohm load, 50 watts theoretically, and have 25 watts per speaker... youd have control of left to right, but not front to back

if you really wanted, you could build a small circuit that limited power to teh rears however much you want
its called an l-pad and it attenuates by increasing resistance. tweeter level adjustments on crossovers are usually just l-pads

i wouldn't really bother amping them unless you planned on keeping them for a while. or if you want more bass. you might have no speakers before long.

General rule of thumb is you can never have too much CLEAN power. Could you blow the speakers with an amp rated almost 7 times more then the speakers? SURE you could. But more likely to blow them with less power that isn't clean.
um well I have over 100 watts going into my stock fronts and even with the HU volume maxed they sound great and have no distortion...my gains are turned almost all the way down though...but i'vee been running them with 100watts for over a year and i have my crossover set at 70-80 and they mix smoothly with my sub!
Sony XM-475GSX 4 way amp bridged into 2 way because I took my rear speakers out, using internal crossover. But I also had my Blaupunkt Class T amp running them for a lil bit and that puts about 116rms each speaker but now that is bridged to about 350rms to my sub.
