Is my Dad right? (VW Beetle)

Basically my father and my uncle are in agreeance that the fastest car off the line in the first 10ft. is the Volkswagen Beetler. Not the new beetle, but the old one. He said after that they suck, but they can't be beat off the line first 10ft.

I've tried to argue with him but he won't accept it, I guess he likes to reminisce. But whatever, the man drives a 2003 Grand Cherokee now.

10 FT!!!

Did you tell your dad that 10 ft isn't equal 1/4 mile? j/k

But GreenNVicious is for the most part correct, you can be fast all you want in the first 10 ft., there still is a big strip of track left that isn't under your car from the start.

the old VWs can be pretty quick off the line, but thats due to it being Rear engine RWD and the gearing. they just dont have much of a top end....

My buddy used to have one and we had the same experience as Zzyzx explained. It had dual webers, a roller pedal, and loud *** exhaust. Fun as hell.

I'm hoping you meant the first 60' but I've seen more then a few turbo bugs runnin low 7's - mid 6's in the 1/8 so potential is there! like everything else with enough $$ they can be as fast as you want.

The original beetles weigh almost nothing . . and the hookup to the wheels was instantaneous with the egine right over them. . . .

I'd wager to say your father is right. First 10' isn't a useful stat, but I wouldn't doubt the validity of the fact that they probably DO get the jump.

What about the EVO or the STi? They get good starts with their AWD don't they? Or any AWD for that matter.

An STi drivetrain? I think not.

They gave one to a professional driver as a test to see what would break first. After MANY redline launches, one of the axles finally gave. However, 3000 RPM launches, the STi can do until the cows come home.
