Skunk 2 mega power thread

hello

I am starting this thread to answer questions that i had about the skunk 2 mega power exhaust that are now answered because i have just installed it on my 2003 civic EX

1. is it fully polished?

yes..the entire system is fully polished...skunk 2 makes them fully polished now

2. does the one for the EX look like the one in the magazine ads?

yup..sure does

3. does it sit too close to the bumper?

yes it does....the stock hangers will not work and you will melt the paint on your bumper

what i did was make my own hangers out of rubber strips...making the holes 2 3/4 " apart (for both muffler and resonator)and it sits perfectly...not too low and not too high

4. does it install easy?

sure does...few bolts here and a few there and its off and on again

5. what does it sound like?

low rumble..at idle it purs...give it gas and it screams a deep tone...hit a nice cruising speed and it mellows out...very nice sound...although you might think it is louder sitting in the "**** pit"..dont worry..i dont think cops will mess with you..and anyways it comes with a silencer

6. what kinda gains will i get?

nothing in the low end department...just a pretty sound...hit 3rd gear at 4000 rpms and i feel an increase in power...significant enough that i imediately noticed it...vtec sounds really cool btw

7. i heard about smells and vibrations???

yes..the new exhaust will burn off a smell...its not your paint..it will go away

I had vibrations with the stock hangers...when i lowered it the vibrations went away

ok thats it

i hope this helps some people who are looking into getting the skunk2...besides the whole hanger thing the exhaust installed easily and i must say i really like it

Good review. I hear it's one of the loudest exhausts.

how much did you pay for it and where from?
i paid like 580 from tornactive...

when i recievied my exhuast it was actualy the wrong one...the box was labled correctly though so it was skunk 2's F up

a quick call to skunk 2 and they shipped me a new one and picked up my old one...took 3 days

what do you mean now they are all fully polished?
skunk 2 used to only make them half polished..and now they make full polished...this is what the general manager said at skunk 2...i dont know how long ago they started making fully polished but at one time they didnt

I hear it's one of the loudest exhausts
maybe maybe not...to me it isnt obnoxious as some of the other fart cannons out there...my brother who could care less about "glorified go carts" told me he liked it alot

ALSO i heard the sound clip of the tanabe..and from that clip the difference is the skunk 2 had a lower tone...IMHO...but you must remeber that i heard a sound clip and not the real thing

When I said loudest I didn't mean obnoxious, just highest db level.

I chose the skunk 2 because

1. how it looked

1st time i saw it i said damn that looks nice

2. how it hangs off the bumper

I was also looking at the tanabe RM...but i did not like the fact it hangs low

from pictures of some of the other members rides the skunk 2 looked to fit just right..unfortunately for my 2003 EX i had to make my own hangers to make it fit right

but that was no big deal

skunk 2 was tops on my list and from there i looked into other options...skunk 2 just appealed to me more really

Do you have pictures of it installed? And do you have any negative comments about it?
