Q about Blown Shocks...I searched!

I recently put in Neupeed Sports and when they did the install, they showed me my front passenger side shock was blown. Now when I drive around, the suspension makes a loud noise when I hit harsh bumps. I know this is normal from what I've read so far.

My question is: OTHER than the loud noises (I can live with that), am I taking any risks by driving around on 1 blown shock? Like, will anything else break because of this?

Debating whether or not getting Konis right now on credit (bad) or wait til next year when I actually have the money (better).

Thanks!

well...driving on a blown shock is never a good thing. but i dont think a blown shock would cause anything else to break. but if you're debating whether to get them now or a YEAR later?????? i'd say now or anytime in the near future...don't drive around with a blown shock for a year.

Yup all the liquid was drained out and the shock didn't have any pressure to rebound. It just stayed at the bottom when I pushed it down.

I get the horrible noises as well, and it just sounds like something's gonna break when I go over potholes on that one shock...that's why I wanted to make sure it's ok to drive around like this.

Snort2001: If nothing's gonna break, why do you say that I should get the Konis soon? I can deal with the harshness...of course I WANT to get them, but don't want to go into debt again!

More opinions please!

you should get new shocks if the liquid is all drained out, otherwise u might damage the control arm and related parts cuz theres no rebounce and u putting all the pressure on them, someone correct me if im wrong, damn, u should have wait to install the springs and bring back to honda for warranty

Well, if this control arm is in danger of being damaged, I should really bite the bullet and get myself some Konis then.

Yeah I would have went back for the warranty, but I didn't even know the shock was blown...there was no difference in ride quality that I could tell, so I think it has been blown out for a while.

I'm going to check around for prices on a set right now. Any advice? Good shops in GTA?

For me, my shock blew out before I ever changed the springs; I actually only found out it was blown when I changed the springs.

If it's blown, you'll notice a lot of dirt & sand all over the suspension assembly because it would all stick to the liquid that has leaked out.

The only differences I notice now is when I go over deep potholes quickly, my suspension bottoms out on that side, making a loud disturbing noise when it hits the bumpstop (at least I HOPE it's the bumpstop and not the control arm or something else bad :P)

thats the bumpstop hitting. having one blown strut up front can make your car unstable in turns and especially at high speeds 55+ Bite the bullet and get a set of Konis you will be much happier and safer afterwards.

I would, but it's not covered by warranty because I have aftermarket springs installed. I know the springs didn't cause the shock to blow, but my dealer is usually pretty strict about this stuff. I was planning to get shocks sooner or later anyway, so I don't want to be bothered to change to OEM, then to aftermarket again right afterwards.

Either way, I plan on driving this winter on the blown shock, save money, and switch to Konis (or Tokicos, if they're out then) first thing in the spring. I figure with the snow and shiat on the ground, the effect of a blown shock will be dampened...plus I won't be driving very quickly anyway.
