power steering
my buddy just put a down on a 97 CX hatch. the only problem i could see with it was the stearing. It was really really really tough around turns. i would of thought the 97's came with power stearing but the guy said they didnt. Anybody know if this is true??
Also my buddy wants to know if there is anyway to convert it so that it has power stearing or would this be a major undertaking?
oh and btw.....please post some pics of hotly done up but still very clean and subtle hatches from that generation

I think the CX was pretty much bare bones... power nothing. I'm sure it can be put in if you get DX hatch parts or something, but I don't know how hard of a job it is.
Its a hard undertaking, you need to find the mounting brackets off a car that has the power steering pump, find the right size belt, adjust some of the locations of various components and the put a power steering box on the steering wheel, you will also need to change the steering colum and probably steering wheel. its a large undertaking and it doesnt really need to be done. You get use to that non power steering quicker then you think good luck either way

^you'll also need a power steering rack and all the mounting brackets and power steering hoses. It might be easier than you think, if the car is really bare bones than you'll have a lot of room to work with. If he want s to save some money try to find the same year Civic in a junk yard and buy all the components. If you haggle the salvage yard correctly you could walk out with everyting for under a $100. You shouldn't need to change the column, just the coupler.
ive never even thought about put a power steering on a non power steering model, its possible i just think its going to be a job and a half it all depends on how much you know and how much you want to learn but solar is right go to a junk yard and see what they have to offer and it might help cut the cost alot like i said good luck with everything
If you want to drag a straight line you can, but if you want to auto-x I would suggest power steering. It matters how heavy the car is. You dont want to remove the power steering on a 2-ton car because you will have a hell of a time turning that beast.
