Dimpling around sunroof **PICTURE UPDATE**
I recently noticed some torsional stress dimples in the corners around my sunroof. I just enjoy hard cornering too much I guess.
I'm at work right now, but I'll try to post some pictures soon.
Any suggestions on a strut tower brace? I don't want to buy some cheap no-name eBay POS that doesn't do anything. I was thinking about getting a DC bar.

SOmeone else had this problem when they installed Neuspeed sway bars I think.
I also think to fix it they had to get lower Tie bars. Not sure though.

This is kinda disturbing to hear since I have an sunroof. I remember reading about this also, and like Fly mentioned not sure of the fix. I think the same person had dimples on top of the car near the trunk to. Please post some pics when you get a chance. Thank you.

I've been reading around online and found some interesting stuff.
Apparently this problem is common in BMW M3's when exposed to heavy track use. (Random factoid).
It seems that this problem is related to my recent upgrade in wheels & tires. The stock firestones didn't grip enough in corners to produce enough torsional stress to damage the body, but my new 17"s with Nankang tires improve cornering dramatically, thus more body twisting.
I plan on getting a set of DC Sports bars (strut and lower tie), and I also saw this beauty, which intrigued me. Anyone know anthing about this?

the dc sports upper strut bar is hinged and doesnt provide a whole lot of stiffness, from what i have read. everyone recommends the nuespeed front upper strut bar.

I have the dents in the corners of the sun roof .... been there for a while ... I thought it was from when I hit a curb ...
(doing bout 40mph swerved away from car with a hard right turn and my right front wheel took a small chunk out of the curb)
I had to replace the A-arm, CV axle, knuckle, something to do with the ABS... and of course the wheel & tire ... had to get an alignment afterwards too... car still makes noise during low speed acceleration ....

I whacked a curb pretty good too, but it didn't do that kind of damage. Just took a chunk out of my wheel and knocked my alignment off.
Maybe I shouldn't enter a turn with a 20mph suggested speed at 50mph anymore. :-)

I'll try to take pics today. Basically it's on the roof in the corners of the sunroof. I guess it looks similar to if someone pushed down with their thumb and made a dent. The dimpling isn't deep... it just looks kind of rippled.
It's hard to describe. I'll take some pics and post it for ya.

Yeah, do not get the DC sports strut bar! DC Sports sucks! Find someone that has one and grab onto it and pull up in down. There is so much flex in those things it makes you wonder how they sell those.

Yeah, I have those dimples in all four corners, although that one's the worst. The ones in the front corners aren't as bad as the ones in the rear.
Yeah, I'm definitely going with the Neuspeed strut tower bar.
I took my car in for warranty repair today. I'm at 35,851 miles, so I figured I should get it fixed up ASAP. I logged complaints about my rear deck rattle, my A/C vents not staying in the position I point them, my clutch squeaking and the dimples in my roof. I figure I'll just complain about everything and see what they'll fix.

If you do take corners hard, but you have the stock Firestone tires, I wouldn't worry about it. Those firestones grip like a stick of melted butter, and in my opinion, they don't grip well enough to induce enough torsional stress to ripple the roof.
If you take corners hard and you have good tires and carve the pavement up, you might want to keep an eye out for rippling.

Hmmm.... I don't drive hard at all, and I have a dimple on one corner of the sunroof. I always figured it's just due to the car being *Ahem* Cheap.
Damn! Now it bugs me!

Dammit, how can I prevent this?
I have Tein SS and Yokohama AVS ES 100 and i love to take hard turns and do mountain runs and stuff.
I dont want ripples in my damn sunroof.
And WD40- Lemme know how the air vent thing goes because one of mine (driver right) wont stay in place but if they wont fix my rocking seat, i doubt they will fix my vent. They always just say "We have compared your problem to another 2002 Civic and it has the same description, which means its fine" That actually means that that one just has my problem and hasnt been fixed yet!!!! :end of vent:

The dealership inspected my air vents and discovered they were "loose" (no kidding, I wasn't lying here.) and they ordered parts for it. They still haven't called me (a week later) so I'll call tomorrow and see if the parts arrived.
In other news, my clutch is back to squeaking again and my rear deck still rattles. Time to take her back.

My cars roof looked like that when my car was totaled, someone slammed into me on the left front at 50mph. Not only did it push the drive axle into the tranny and cracked the engine block, but the dimples around the moonroof were horrible.

Anyhow I replaced it with a 03 Si, which I love so much more than my EX, but my EX held its value so well I was able to pay it off and have a fist full of $$. Which i used half to buy my Si that turned out to be cheaper in the long run.

My 02 Civic EX was totalled on Memorial Day weekend, I thought I talked to you about that. I don't remember a thing about it and got a concussion out of the deal, and the person who hit me had no insurance, thank god I had un-insured motorist coverage. The person ran a red light and slammed me on the left front side, glad I didn't get it in the door.

Damn ... I guess that concussion was pretty nasty, cuz you never talked to me about that
But at least everything turned out well for you. And yeah, the current Si is a nice well-built car... I just wish it looked better.

I guess I have you confused with someone else, yah that concussion was pretty bad, its my 4th in 10 years, yes I have some really bad luck. 2 from car accidents that wern't my fault, motorcycle vs. tree root sticking out of the ground, and football. I plan on retiring early in my life while I can still remember "most" things.
