02' center console swap in to 01'
I just wanted to know if its just a stright swap or would ther be any problems involved?
here are some of the interior things that I did to snazzy up my plain DX.
it's nto something that most other 7thgen owners would take notice to, but if you've driven a 2001 Civic for long enough, and especially if you own a DX, this interior makeover makes all the difference in the world.

nice soveriegn...especially the power window switch placement. I have a manual but the swap should be just the same right? Where did you get the console? H&A?
yup www.hondaautomotiveparts.com is the place to get all your oem parts and needs. I heard that Hondawerx (member of this site aka MugenRacerX) can hook you up, but I'm not sure if he supplies all the parts needed for the swap.
The only parts I bought from hondaautomtive were:
'02 EX console set (part# 555708)
'02 manual shift boot (part# 519414)
'02 cigarette lighter panel (part# 519666)
'02 two side-flap pieces of trim (part# 555228 & 555368)
The console set doesn't come with a shifter panel or the handbrake panel or the end cover (some models have a cupholder at the end of the console). You can use the handbrake panel and the end cover from your 2001, so that saves you a few dollars. The shifter and cigarette lighter panel of a 2001 model is different sized than the 2002 so you need to buy the 2002 versions. hope i've helped. You WILL like the new console after you coverted it.

Thanks for the info...im a little confused with the parts. WHen I took my console apart there were just two pieces...the part with the storage bin and change holder(where your remote is in the pic) and the main part which included the shift boot and cupholders. Are the 02' like that?

COuld you give me all the part # for the whole thing? My console is pretty scratched up throughout so I figure I might as well replace the entire thing.
ok let's start with an easy one:
System Name\Component : INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH (PASSENGER SIDE)
if the link doesn't work (it never does for some reason), click here: choosing components
Selest these --
on this page I circled #43 because that's what I bought. I think it's the only panel that will fit on top of the EX '02 center console. I know #17 & #16 will fit the 2001s, but maybe not the 2002s.
so buy:

I have a question, but it's about the 2003 console.
How many of the parts below would be needed to convert a 2001 DX to the 2003 EX console?
#18 for sure, possibly #23.
?? about #6, #4, and 24/10/9
If it matters, I don't really need a cupholder or ashtray in the rear of it, if that saves a buck or two.
I really like the integrated armrest, rather than getting one that mounts to the drivers seat.

hey bells. the 03 console is not so appealing because of that ambiguous arm rest that is part of the center console. Yes you would need parts: 18, either 5 or 4+3+21, 17, 9 or 10 or 24, and 23. I'm not exactly sure what #6 does, but buy it just in case).
you also need the lower part of the dash board (the cigarette panel).

can be found in System Name\Component : INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH (PASSENGER SIDE)
you need parts: 48, and 49
those are the best parts of the 2003 center console. they make the center console 'connect' to the lower dash. like in this picture:

there ARE NO parts you can reuse from the 2001, except for the shifter itself of course.

Thanks for the info.
Let's do a breakdown for those who might want a dollar amount.
#18 $78.38
#5 25.56
#17 7.77
#24 19.40
#23 39.57
#48 22.00
#49 6.66
----------------
Ttl $199.34
S&H 4.95
----------------
Grand
Total $204.29
Expensive project. I'm thinking that waiting until wrecked '03 civic hits the junkyard and then get an all-inclusive deal on the whole console would be cheaper.

System Name\Component : CONSOLE (2)

you need:
Product No. - Illustration No. - Required Qty. - Description - Color
555708 - 015 - 1 - CONSOLE SET, CENTER - GRAPHITE BLACK
555228 - 010 - 1 - GARNISH ASSY., R. PANEL SIDE - GRAPHITE BLACK
555368 - 011 - 1 - GARNISH ASSY., L. PANEL SIDE - GRAPHITE BLACK
519414 - 003 - 1 - GARNISH ASSY., CENTER CONSOLE - GRAPHITE BLACK
you can get the prices and what not on the link above. just click the BUY button, adding the part to your cart, and when you have everything, check out. Also, if you have a beige interior, please buy the BEIGE counterparts. The parts I bought were BLACK because my interior is black. The BEIGE versions are usually listed above the black piece on the list of part on the page.

yes finding a junk yard Civic with an intact interior would be a great idea. but when I went searching last year, the only Civics I could find were already stripped to the bone. So I just ordered a 2002 console and it cost me less than $90 in total (not to mention a piece was out of stock for 3 months, so I was delayed that long to converting my dash). I see that they have also raised their prices.

#43 will fit the 2002 console. The center console and the #43 will piece together, but they do not connect like the 2003.

I'm sorry if I have confused anyone. The hardest things about this project is ordering all the correct parts. Seriously.
The swap is a cinch. There's a DIY on removing the center console in our DIY section.
if you can understand what i've been blabbering about thus far, then I praise you. The 2002 console really is an improvement over the 2001 console. I like the 2003 console because the lower dash (the cigarette panel) connects to the center console, making it look like a whole piece.

nope not at all. the panel's just clipped on, like most of the parts on our car. to remove the cigarette lighter socket, you need to get behind the panel and push in the two 'hooks' (i dunno what else to call them.. teeth?) that keep it on that small lower dash panel.
