brake squealling
brake squealling
i got my car about 2weeks ago..
but my brake already started to squealling..
what it does is that..
when i press the brake and SLIGHTLY lessen the force on it, then it sounds..
i dont kno how to explain the sound and i dont kno if its normal or not..
my dad's car does it too but his car is about 2yrs old and needs to change its pads..
but my car is only 2 weeks old..
so im just curious if theres any problem of it..
once i didnt push down my handbrake and ran about 3miles or so..does this do anything about this problem do u think?

3 miles and you didnt realize the e-brake was partially up? I know our cars are slow, but come on, you should have noticed. Anyway, my car does this sometimes if its been damp/humid out. some rust glazes the rotor and then it squeels as it pretty much gets scraped off as I brake.
Have you done that "brake -- break-in" thing !!
It kind`a goes like this;
Find a safe straight road , and go about 45 or 50 , and apply firm brake preasure until you stop.
Drive some more , but try not to use the brakes for a couple of miles ( so the rotors will cool )
Then repeat the process about 6 or 8 times.
After that try to drive careful for 2 ~ 3 hundred miles (no realy hard braking, unless emergency)
Then your pads and rotors should be proberly set and matched.
This should also be done when you get new pads.
I hope this helps

Yea, i had this exact same problem when i first started driving my Civic. I had driven at 50 mph for a few minutes before I realized the e-brake was on, and it pretty much screwed up my brakes. I was hearing a distinct metal-on-metal sound from my rear wheels so I took the car to Midas, they inspected the brakes (were curious how brakes could have that much wear at 1000 miles, cuz I didn't tell them about the e-brake incident) but didn't replace them, instead they just said they dusted them and I haven't heard the squealing since (except when I brake REALLY hard). Also, it was all free since the car was still under warranty, I suggest you take your Civic in to a brake shop and see what they can do. If you're lucky, you might even get a free new set of brakes out of the deal.
I've got an automatic and the breaks squeak when you start and stop in traffic. Honda have told me this is normal with Automatics.
My cars been like this since new along with one hundred other problems.

Reason #1: If still under warranty, they refuse to work because they don't get paid.
Reason #2: Their mechanics are so dumb that we have to tell them how to do their job.
Reason #3: Their engineering for the 7th Gen is so bad that they refused to come up with a solution.
Reason #4: They tell you they are 100% customer satisfaction. But do you see it?
Reason #5: They get away from recalls, so they come up with TSB.
Reason #6: Got Honda? Good. Then you are not driving a NASCAR.
