Car leaking oil

I did an oil change myself last week and now my car is leaking oil. I suspect that it is the oil filter which I bought from Acura the dealer. The filter they gave me was smaller than previous
filters. I did read on a Web site that Honda was migrating to a smaller filter for the 1.7L Civic/EL engines, so I assumed that what they gave me was this updated filter. However, since I did my oil change last week the car has been making a mess all over my driveway. The filter was smaller, but seemed to thread on properly, and I tightened as best I could by hand (which is the way many people suggest for an oil filter).

The drain bolt looked fine, the washer was replaced, and it was torqued to 30 ft-lbs as per the manual.

Has anybody also come across this smaller updated filter?

Is there anything else that could be causing my oil leak?

I am thinking of jacking up the car again and replacing the filter to see if that helps. I'll have to get under there anyway to see where the leaks are originating from.

mine too ^^

Take the filter off and see if the O-ring from the previous filter is still on there. If you have 2 on there, that's bad. There should only be the one that is on the filter. Also try to find out where the oil is coming from (also another good reason to keep your engine clean). And you don't have to go to Honda for a filter, Auto Zone filters are just fine.

I had a problem like this as well. Only I had my oil changed at the dealership. (free perk) Anyways, there is a cross-member right below the filter, kinda shaped like a "u", and sometimes the filter will drip some oil into it. It then will slowly drip out, and make a mess on your driveway. So I took it back, and they took a rag and some brake cleaner, and wiped up all the oil in the cross-member.

I'd say jack up the car, and look for the crossmember. Stick your finger in it and see if it's got any oil in it. If it does, clean it out and wait and see if that got it.

My suspicions were correct. The filter that the dealership gave me must have been incorrect. I've replaced it with a new filter (like previous size) and I don't notice any more leaking.
