Question Hissing or "Release" Sound in AC

Okay so I've noticed this in two cars already... Every time that I/someone else accelerates in the car, and the AC is on, there seems to be some type of "release," or slight hissing noise out of the AC vents...

Someone told me that it has something to do with a valve, but I'm not sure that they knew precisely what could be causing this...

I'm just curious as to anybody else having experienced this or whether or not someone knows exactly what is going on...

I'm not sure if it's related to the weather either, becuase sometimes when it's really really hot and humid, the hissing/release noise is louder than it is at other times...

why are you using power robbing AC anyway?! crazy... i use the 2-60 system instead of the AC... 2 windows down, 60 mph.

i don't know what could be causing the noise, could be an air leak in the box thing.

Hahaha...2-60 system...that's great

What box thing?

I'm not quite sure what it could be coming from. It's weird b/c it only happens when you're accelerating.... I would guess if others hear the same noise in their car while they are accelerating it's a normal thing...

Wow, nothing but noobs in this thread.

The sound you are describing is normal. It comes from underneath the passenger seat. There is a thread about it in the Vehicle Problems section. I'll try to find it so you can get a better idea of what it is, cuz I can't describe very well. Someone posted it a looooong time ago.

Cool

It really is good to know that this isn't a sign that something is broken/breaking.

Does anybody know if this happens in all types of cars, or it just something that happens in civics? One of my friends mentioned he had a "similar" noise in his mazda 626.

The only reason I was concerned about this is b/c it seems to have gotten louder than I remember it...I wonder if it had anything to do with the weather b/c it was awfully humid here today.

Most of us have warranty anyway, so just wait until something breaks and take it in.
