Best/easiest way to jack car for exhaust install?
My RS*R comes tomorrow (provided UPS is telling the truth), and I took a good look under the car as far as what's gotta happen. It's lookin like its a bit of a pain due to the length of the exhaust from the cat-back. So I was trying to figure out the easiest way to get the stock one off, and how to jack it to do so (I'm not cool enough to have a lift, or free access to one), so I gotta do this the old-fashoned way, with a jack and stands. Getting the rear off seems like no challenge, just lift the whole back, but what's the easiest way to get at the bolts on the back of the cat? Is it possible to safely lift the entire right side of the car and get at it? Or is it just a squeeze in there with the front jacked up and work cramped? I really can't figure out a good way to get under there.... but I'd like to find out how you pulled it off.

i had a hell of a time getting the cat. bolts off, had to jack up the front end facing down on a hill to get the right angle. i soak'd the bolts with nearly a quarter of a can of WD40 and i had the kick the wrench to undo the bolts...and i never feared losing my leg more than i did that day, lol.

Just please make sure you use the jack stands, I've had a friend get his fibia and tibia broken in two from his truck falling on it when the jack failed. And yes, he's a moron but has since learned his lesson. And it is ok to just jack up one side of the car.

i was thinking that when i get my exhaust to just use some good car ramps and back my car up on those to get at it. if you put the ramps on a hill and have the front of the car on the higher portion of the hill then it will make the underside more accessible. but the jackstands and jack will probably work just as well
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Here is how we I install exhaust systems on 7thgens. We roll the front passenger side up on a ramp. Then jack the rear passenger side up and place the ramp under the tire for safety. It's very stable. I've done it 3 times with no problems.....here is a pic......
I just jacked up the back end and put them on jack stands. I used WD/40 and sprayed all of the bolts and let them sit for a few minutes. All of the bolts came off fine. Just torquing the bolts on the cat was the hard part.

RS*R is Japanese. It's a Muffler-type exhaust. Supposed to be very quiet and provide mid-range gains.
