Click when pressing clutch
Click when pressing clutch
Hola --
I have an '02 Si w/ about 14.5K miles on it. When I press in my clutch about an inch there is this clicking that can be felt on the pedal and heard in the cabin/under the hood. I brought it in to the dealer once and they didn't find anything wrong. They took it all apart, greased it up, and put it back together. It was ok for a day or two and it started again. I don't notice anything mechanically wrong with the clutch (not having problems getting in/out of gear) but this worries me. I am dropping the car off again manana.
Has anyone else experienced or heard of something like this? Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?

Yeah... it's common. Your dealer is giving you a BS line. Its either the return spring underneath the dash, or the master cylinder fitting, but that's more of a squeak. I bet the spring is pinching and snagging on it's way in. Get some lithium grease and slobber it all over the spring. Then pump it a bunch with the car off to work it into the coils. see if that works. It did for me.
i have a 2001 civic lx and at times when i let the clutch out it makes a click and now when let the clutch out it squeeks (especially right after i turn the car off and let the clutch out).
OK...had the car for two days now and it hasn't come back yet (hopefully it won't). They did more greasing stuff...I dont have the exact work request in front of me so I can't say exactly what they did. Oh, and they also replaced my blown left tweeter. Not too bad...tear up the factory stuff and get it replaced for free!

There are several issues related to clutch clickings and squeakings that I know of:
1) clutch clicking
2) clutch squeaking (inside cabin)
3) clutch squeaking (caused by throwout bearing in engine bay...area between engine and radiator)
I've had problems #2 + #3, and I had this TSB performed by my dealer: http://www.nhtsa.com/TSBScans/sb629094.pdf
But that didn't solve squat. IMO, this TSB is pretty useless for the most common clutch squeaks.
So I ended up fixing #2 myself by doing this: Take off the panel below the steering wheel. Lie on your back and crawl underneath the steering wheel area to look up at the clutch mechanism. If you pump the clutch slightly with your hand, you will see a metal tube moving in and out of the firewall. Just spray that part (and all other moving parts while you're at it) with liberal amounts of silicone (use a rag to catch the drips). I then coated all the moving parts with all-purpose grease to seal it in.
For #3, you can do this yourself or have the dealer do it (courtesy of Boilermaker from a previous post) :
"Its the linkage between the slave cylinder and the throwout bearing. There's some bearings outside the housing that need to be re-packed with grease. Tell them to use the stuff they put in the Odyssey sliding door track... works wonders. It's a 1.5 Hr fix, but just leave it for a 1/2 a day so they can check it over good. I know for sure that the one I've got now is the spring inside the car... because the only time I hear it is inside the car. And before you leave the dealer, pump the clutch 20 or so times and make sure they actually fixed it. The Odyssey grease is much better... smoother and more resistant to temperature changes....... this has nothing to do with the master cylinder squeak on the TSB... something totally different. They've got written down that it takes 1.5 hrs. They're not taking the tranny off or taking the clutch apart. All the work is outside the housing. It's the fork and bearings of the actuator for the throwout bearing."
