Hey,
does anyone here have a misdemeanor on their record? if so, what consequences did you have to face (jobs denied/couldn't rent appartments)? I guess what I'm trying to find out is whether or not a misdemeanor really does have as huge of an impact as law firms always claim. they always urge you to hire them to avoid misdemeanors, cuz they're so bad, but is that really true?
Since there is a certain level of wanted anonymity to this subject, please PM me, if you have information towards this.
Also, if you maybe own a business or are in charge of hiring employees, how drastically would a drug possession misdemeanor affect your judgement?
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

I am glad someone has asked this question as I may be the perfect person to respond.

I will start by saying I have 3 misdemenors on my record and yes they do effect you in different ways.

Let me start by saying when you get arrested, no matter what that will reflect on your record, whether you are convicted of the crime or not. Your record will show you are arrested. if the charge was dropped, it will still show you were arrested.

now next I have never hired a lawyer. one because they always charge too much. second I always have gotten court appointed lawyers. some say they suck but if they suck, I ask the judge for another one untill the right one comes along.

Now I have been denied several jobs because of my record. if it is you and another employee hiring for the same job and they see you have a misdemenor and the other doesnt, they dont care what it is for they will hire the other person. but yes having a record does have an impact. some jobs will overlook it, others wont.

Now as far as other things like apartments, I havent ran into any problems there. just on the job outlook.

but remember lawyers will tell you ANYTHING just so you will hire them. they dont make money unless they have someone to defend. they are just like salesman, will say anything to get a customer.

i got one last year and it hasnt effected me yet. well, maybe when my insurance went from 2200 a yr to 5500 but aside from that i dont know.
