weather related days-off from work?

as in when you're told to stay off the roads (highway patrol and police escort you back to your house and tell you to stay off road) because of the hurricanes here in Florida, yet your employer stays open throughout the hurricane and says you either come to work or stay home...are they required to pay you since it's not even your fault you can't get to work?

it just doesn't seem fair...it's what wal-mart did past couple of years (and what my current employer is doing) except they closed and tried to say they didn't have to pay out anything....but they did out of pity and for relief....ask me to explain further if you need me to.....

Nope. Sorry. The only way that you are guaranteed pay is if you are on salary, and that's usually only if the company itself closes. The only thing that you could possibly do is to take a vacation day.

that sucks
