Tint Ticket in Socal.... Need help
Got a ticket for tint in the front windows.... not just a fixit ticket.. he said its so dark that I have to go to court so its gonna be a bigger fine. Its not limo its like dark which I would say is 20% all around. Anybody got any advice at all? How much do you guys think the ticket would be? Anyway out of it? I got stopped by CHP on the 405 in Long Beach. Any advice would help. Thanks a lot.

i have 15% tint on the rear windows and 50% at the front. i got stopped and i got out of the ticket. all i told the cop was that i thought that front had to be at most 35% at the front the back of the car can be anything you want as long as you have both rear view mirrors. from what i know. search it on google im sure you'll find it. but i got out of it by telling him that. dont know why he let me go though.
but it might help

the legal tint on the front windows in cali are 70%, so you know you have illegal tint. I think it is really stupid because 70% is pretty damn light. that is basically a car with no tint. Anyway whether you have to go to court or not shouldnt matter, if you still fix it they should dismiss it.
^in CA, law states front windows cannot be tinted at all. the officer that signed me off for it told me the legal amount is 90% and thats with an approval of some sort.
i think its bs how its not gonna be a fix-it ticket just because its dark. im guessing what the officer wants you to do is just pay the large fine and NOT remove the tint so you can cash out the courthouse. on the ticket citation, does it say correctable? it should because if it doesnt, i would call the CHP and explain your situtation. window tints are fix-it citations
ive had a fix-it ticket for front window tints (35%) and what i had to do was remove the tint, find an officer and have him sign the back of the ticket, goto court house and pay the $10-+ fee.
you will get a courtesy notice in the mail saying you owe $300-+ for bail amount, but thats bs. take that ticket, have an officer sign the back (after you remove the tint of course) and go to the court house and pay just the fees. i never heard of any law saying "if your tint is dark, your cant fix it"... BS

ILLEGAL: Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).

the 70% law was effective in 1999 i believe? but as of today (2005), it is illegal to have any percent tint on the front windows of a vehicle in california. i know because when i was cited for it, i asked the officer what was the legal percentage.. he said none. i thought he was wrong so i called CHP to verify. turns out the officer was right.

According to the following URL:
http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.
I would assume this to be the last guide on the tint law in California. Note that black tint is neither clear nor colorless so by definition it is illegal to have black tint on your front side windows.
