Can You Be Sued For Working On Someone's Car ?
Hello,
I help run a Car Care Ministry at my Church. We Change Oil, Air filters, Spark plugs... We do Pretty much anything that can be considered Maintenence, for divorced women, the elderly, anybody in need really. My question is:
Is there a Good Samaritian type law in effect for these types of ministries? A law that will protect the church, from someone making a monitary claim?
Thanks,

If your real question is because of the church's IRS tax exempt status, can you bypass the customary usual "business" insurance that would cover these types of potential suits, the answer is NO! Unless you folks are ok with self insurance?????
If your premise is true, why couldn't a huge quckie lube corporation secure the IRS tax exempt status and call themselves the "church" of quickie lube so they could fall under good sam law for liability purposes?
While I personally applaud the motivations for you, the folks at the church etc to do these things, when it comes to the law, sometimes no good deed goes unpunished! I would cease and desist till you check it out with your churches insurer and or business lawyer to make sure you are procedurally correct.

Do Business laws and insurance laws apply to Ministry though ??
The primary difference between us and the Quickie lube, being that we do not receive payment of anykind from the people receiving the services.
I realize of course that if we were to start charging even an small amount for the service then it would qualify as a bussiness, and we would be opening a whole new can of worms.
I was curious as to whether there is a form of good samaritian law?
