Ticket for a loud muffler??

Hello everyone,
I live in Miami and even though we don't have emissions down here cops can be real jerks sometimes.
Anyways, I was pulled over the other night for other reasons other than my loud muffler but appearently cause I was honest and the cop was in a good mood, he said I had to either remove my muffler cause it was too loud or silenced it . I even explained to him that it was street legal and everything, he he , but nothing, he screwed me.
Have you guys run into this problem with the law before? I know all I have to do is silence it and then send the documents to court and they'll remove the ticket which doesn't even cost point on my liscence(according to him), but I was just wondering, has anyone here gotten a ticket for having a loud muffler before?

I got a modified exhaust citation in december '03. No more fix-it tickets. You have to pay... and if they are real d*cks they'll make you go to a law enforcment smog check station. Since I cried to the cop he let me go, I have no cat. and engine swap... he was about to tow me away

find out what the law is in your town/state regarding db levels from exhausts. and then find out from the manufacturer if your exhaust is under that level. if so, then by law you cannot get a ticket for it. i'm sure you can find these laws on the internet or in your local library.

In some states it's illegal to modify the stock exhaust, even if it's not noisy.

Exactly. Best bet is too just pay the fine if you like your exhaust, or remove it and get the ticket dismissed.

My brother got a ticket for a modified exhaust.... they wrote it under "deffective/broken muffler". In NY, ANY exhaust mod is illegal now

thats why I said if you like it, then just pay the fine. Those are your only 2 options. either pay the fine, or remove it and get it dismissed.

Now your profile says you have a universal catback, just remove it and stick your OEM exhaust on there. Then after court, put your exhaust back on. If it is all bolt on, it shouldnt take you long to do.

Likely it will be a city ordinance - call your local PD and ask to speak to the desk sgt or someone who knows what the law is, they should be able to tell you what the law is, or find someone who can. Many patrol cops don't know the exact ordinance.

Many places have Noise Ordinances, and if anything on your vehicle is over a certain dB level, be it your stereo, intake, exhaust etc. you CAN get a ticket.
