Just got a speeding ticket today
Hey I didn't think that I would be posting in here but I just recieved a ticket for going 72 in a 55. My question is what should I do? Should I fight it or just send in the money? I also have another question, the cop wrote out the ticket but put my state as NY instead of VT, does this make a difference, any help would be greatly apreciated.
is this your first speeding ticket? if it is, id advise you to go to court for two reasons - one, the judge may be kind enuf to let u get away without much if its ure first ticket, sometimes they wont even put it on ure record, second if the cop doesnt show up during ure court date, then there is no case per se so the judge will most likely reduce the fines by a half! i learnt this the hard way!
PS. i got this advise froma buddy - not first hand experience or any research. so just passing it along. i could be wrong!

I had a lawyer make a plea agreement, i had to pay fines and court costs, and now its a equipment violation, 94 in a 65 cost about $600 total is now an equip violation on my record
(not sure if this works everywhere but it does here

i got the ticket in new york and thanks for the advice kilum, could i change my courtdate to an earlier date because i will be in School in Mass and i wouldn't beable to make it back for the court date, this is also my first speeding ticket
yeah then definitely go to court - im not sure how the change of dates works - call the number on the ticket and talk to them. they're usually very cooperative! im not sure if u can get an earlier court date. but i think they can postpone it!
young white male in a good looking car...you were dead meat
I have some profiling to counter cops' profiling: all cops, everywhere, of every kind, shape, and color are COMPLETE *******S. I have learned this the hard way.
Cop pulled a guy I know over in his SRT-4 (the cop later tells him that his probable cause was that he was a young white male in a "fast-looking" car). When he finds no trouble with the car's appearance/exhaust/no neons etc. and no beer, weapons, etc. and a spotless driving record, he has three cop buddies come over lights flashing to tell the kid his boost gauge was illegal. The thing is, the boost gauge is STOCK. My friend shows this politely, ends up getting three tickets (his dad is a lawyer and gets them tossed out faster than anything but it is still annoying for the time and inconvenience).
Cops can shove their profiling up their asses.

listen up its time people accept responsibility for their actions. if you got caught speeding and you know you are guilty. PAY IT!
its simple. you get a ticket, you say WTF, you pay it and then u will think twice before speeding again.
now if u get a ticket, u say WTF, you fight it and win. what are you gonna do now? SPEED again!
so stop abusing the legal system and pay up sucka!
ok so the cop wrote down NY instead of VT? well did he get ur plates right? drivers license right? street? place? speed? THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!

Um, if you were talking to everyone (which would include me), reread my post. The difference is my friend was not speeding or violating any law for that matter. He was in the right and he could have rubbed it in the cop's face, but he didn't and was very polite AND HE STILL GOT A FREAKING TICKET. It got thrown out but court costs + time hassle is gay.
If you were talking to everyone but me, ignore what I just said

I also agree with bluericeburner. If you were speeding and you got caught, you deserve the ticket.

how is catching someone going 70+ in a 55 mph zone ABUSING their power??
its called keeping people safe. you are deffinatly WRONG!
NEONSRT:what i said obviously does NOT apply to your story. im saying that in general if u did someting like SPEEDING accept responsibility and pay the fine. dont try to fight it just because " its your first ticket."
basically like waving a gun out of a car window, getting caught, fined, and fighting it in court.
reason: first time getting caught and wa wa wa mr police abusing their power again

the guy who started this thread said he got a 70+ ticket in a 55 mph zone and asked if he should fight it.
his basis for argument is that the cop wrote down NY instead of VT.
i guess he erased his post because he saw the light
i got two tickets.. one for going 60 in a 45, and the other 82 in a 45... i went to court on my first one, and the cop didn't show up, so i suggest that u go to court with a lawyer... but if not, then just take traffic school, i don't know if it's offered there, but it's not as bad as everyone says it is...
