Radar Detector Laws in VA...
I've been researching the laws regarding radar detectors in VA, and here's what I found. It is ILLEGAL to have one in your car only if it has power at the time of the accusation! So, here's my question: Say I have a Valentine One (immune to the VG-2). I get pulled over for speeding for whatever reason. The officer sees the detector, and is going to write me for having it illegally. What if I were to install a hidden switch somewhere to cut the power to the detector? Then I could say, "see, it doesn't have any power. It won't even turn on." Would that possibly work?

One of my friends (from North Carolina) was picking me up from Dulles Airport and he brought his radar in his car (Valentine One). The radar was disconnected from the ac plug but was still hanging on his windshield. You could actually see that the dongle was not even plug in to the dash and it was not getting power. Right after I finished loading my crap into his car, The F-ing cop reached into his car, unplugged the radar, and wrote him a ticket. My friend and I were packing my bags in the trunk and saw him reach in and grab the radar. We said its illegal to have it on and he said no, its illegal to not only have it on, but also have it in visible site. He said if my friend drove from Maryland to VA he has to put it in his glove compartment. Finally after about 10 minutes of arguing with him, we gave up and my friend had to drive up to VA for his court hearing where the judge fined him but gave him back his radar. Actually, after the judge ruled against him and fined him he got his radar at the clerk. He spoke with a lawyer and the lawyer said that cops can never enter your house unless they have probable cause and if for instance they see a plant that looks like weed, they can by law enter your house, go to the room where that plant is, and confiscate it. All without ANY warrant. Its the same principal I guess. I agree with this in some instances, but cops like to place God to much. Especially in Fairfax & Montgomery County.

wow. Check this out: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...+cod+46.2-1079
The actual VA law. I can see the interpretation of the cop, in that "the presence of any such prohibited device or mechanism in or on a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth shall constitute prima facie evidence of the violation of this section. The Commonwealth need not prove that the device or mechanism in question was in an operative condition or being operated. "
However, "A person shall not be guilty of a violation of this section when the device or mechanism in question, at the time of the alleged offense, had no power source and was not readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger in the vehicle. "
I hate laws. They can be interpreted so many different ways.

they can detect your radar detector.. if it's on or not. so it wouldn't work. but, if you're from out of state, you won't get a ticket for having one as long as it's unplugged. if you're from Va, hide it.. or get a ticket.
