Ok heres the deal, 2 months ago the spring semester ended, so I go ahead and pay tuition for the summer and this comming fall tuition. The summer tuition isn't important. The fall tuition came to about $1,500 so I go in and write a check. All taking care of and paid.

Well just last week I go in to pay for my PO Box on campus, and they tell me there is a hold on my academic records and student account because I owe them $56.25. I ask whats this for and they say that AFTER I paid for the fall semester there was an increase in tuition and now I have to pay that too.

I was just curious if this was legal cause I fully paid for a service in advance and now they come after I paid saying that I owe money.

Um, unless it was announced as to a specific date that tuition raise would take effect, they can't just do that to you. They HAVE TO announce it however (ie newspaper, school letter sent to all applicants, current students etc)

been there, done that. yea they can do that if they want. they will probably send u a letter saying its raised if u dont pay it or what not. theres no way out of not paying it unless u dont want to get credit for ur classes. i had this happen last fall when they raised tuition. went into pay it, said tuition had been raised 130 bucks. i was like, what!

Injen is right, they can do it although most post notices saying effective a certain date, tuition prices will rise. My college didn't let students register for the semester until the raise happened. My advice, pay the $60. You've probably spent that much on a weekend before.

Well crap looks like it is legal, however they never sent me anything or posted this anywhere. I was just paying for my mailbox when I was told there was a hold on my account.

This university is pissing me off, apparently the student government and VOTING doesn;t mean **** anymore. Awhile back the athletic department wanted to have a new state of the art training building made. It was a cool idea until they decided that this new building would only be made avaiable to athletes, BTW the sports at UL suck ***, they don't win anything. Despite the fact that they already have an athletes only building, AND an "all UL students" building, they wanted a new one.

Well the student body voted on it as we'd be the ones paying for it.

Well it got shot down......big time, over 90% of the students voted against the construction of a facality they couoldn't use. Well the athletics department went bitching to the Dean and he'd Ok'd it. So now we have to pay the extra $$$ >:\
