having in-dash screen on while driving.....
i recently received a ticket for having my in-dash screen up playing a movie for my passenger.
i received a ticket even though I was not watching while driving by the California Highway Patrol. It was on for my passenger and I explained that to the Officer. He said eventhough, it is still in the line of sight of the road.
the ticket isn't so bad, its just the adding another point to my driving record.
has anyone else been ticketed for this?
I want to fight it in court and say that my Navigation System was up.
thoughts?

You could try, but the chances of you winning would depend on your testimony. If you told the CHP officer that a movie was playing while you're driving, he may make a note of that on his ticket book for his personal record.

Damned if I know the specific traffic violation down in California, but that offence is against the law here.
The rule of thumb is:
Do not drive a vehicle equipped with a video monitor displaying any type of video signal if the monitor is visible to the driver while operating the vehicle
Seeing as the monitor was visible to you (ie not visible to bus drivers), I very much doubt it is worth fighting as you probably will not win. But its your life to live, so good luck - either fighting it or staying out of trouble

dont fight it cause if the officers has a recorder and video in car camera which he/she should, then you were recorded admitting you had it on, and if its in the front anyways your gonna get it a ticket. obstruction of view is basically what it boils down to... so dont fight it...
