Movin To Sacramento From SC...

..and I got a few legal questions....I have read the posts on the laws/restrictions, but I wanted to get some feedback from you guys in the area about real-world enforcement...

We can have 30% tint here and I have it all around...I know you can't have anything on the driver/passenger windows in Cali, but how seriously is this enforced? Should I go ahead and remove it when I get it transfered over to CA tags? Or should I not worry about it too much?

Also...the tag that's mounted in front...how well is that enforced? We only have a rear tag here in SC and I hate puttin em on in front...how big a deal are both these issues if you get ticketed?

Guess I'm just lookin for some of ya'lls experiences..

Remember that police dont make the laws, they enforce them.

I dont know one officer in my area that has the tool used to measure tint...

Yeah, it just depend on the cop. Some will try to get you for everything. "Your car is too low, you have an intake, your tints are too dark, blah, blah, blah," Others, don't care less about you as long as you don't do anything dumb. I don't think you have to remove your tints, or anything.

^^^

what they said. imo it also depends on what part of the city you're in. elk grove pd has a reputation of being strict with everything.

but i've seen alot of cars around sacramento with dark tint all around. i'd recommend you not worry about it until you get a fix-it ticket

Well, CA uses the front plate to give people tickets with the red light cameras. So the cops nail every person that does not put it on. Expect to get pulled over and put it on, but that one is only a fix it ticket, meaning you have to put it on and get it signed off and turn the ticket in. Now tint is also a big thing you will get pulled over for a lot once you get CA plates. I never got pulled over for either with Alabama tags, but with CA tags, it was 3 times in a week. Plus you also have to pay a fine for the tint violation including removing it.

It will not be a question of if you get pulled over, but when and how many times. The California Highway Patrol enforce every law, including aftermarket parts that are not CARB certified. So if you have parts that are, keep the E.O. Numbers in your car. If you don't have CARB certified parts, might as well remove them now, because you will never pass the smog check required to register your car in CA.

Why don't you just keep the SC plates? I'm moving out to Cali the fall as well, and I don't intend on switching my MA plates

Yeah...I'm keepin my SC tags until they run out...which'll be about a year from now cuz I just renewed em. I was just curious about when I do end up having to make that switch. So I'll be good to go as long as I have my SC tags on? Even if I get pulled over?

Well the tint should be the least of your worries, my buddy just moved into sac from texas with his civic Type-R that he imported. Texas doesn't really care as far as smogging goes.....he got raped when he went to do it here three months ago. It was close to 750.
